K2 vs Birth Abroad (may have recieved some bad advice)

My Fiance and I have 18 month old son. I was told it was easier to bring my son with my fiance on a k2. Their interview is scheduled for 1-11-2010. Is this going to be an issue. Can my son come over on the K2 or will we be forced to file for Birth Abroad before he can come to the US? If we have to file for birth abroad, how long will this take?

If he is your biological son by all means file for CRBA. Doesn't take that long and saves a LOT of hassel and money.

I'd have your fiance file now, do her interview and wait for the child to get CRBA approval and his US passport.

My friend, a USC, did a CRBA and US passport for his foreign born son at the US Embassy in South Korea for his son. Everything was done in five weeks. He as the US citizen had to make a personal appearance at the Embassy.

If your son is elligible for CRBA, then he is a US citizen and thus cannot get a K2, because US citizens don't need visas to enter the US. I don;t know about the US embassy in Manila, but when I went to my interview, the only thing the COP seemed interested in is whether we had done CRBA for the twins yet- they didn;t even ask about our other bonafide proof!

Thanks everyone. I will get the application for CRBA filled out today and send that along with supporting documentation out in the next day or two.

Does anyone know how long it takes to get this approved and a passport issued in the Philippines? Will I be required to be present for the interview or will just his mother being present be okay?
