P.S. Everyone-Actually, what I wore for the 2nd interview was sort of tracksuit-like, from a distance away, and I wore sneakers too (see description of what I wore from previous posts)....The most important thing was comfort for me...And that worked, I suppose.....Frankly, I didn't care too much what they thought what I wore...As long as I was decent...so be it..lol.....

Okay, let's look at this. You are entering a US Consulate. Not a bar. If you think that dressing well doesn't count, then fine. Dress as you want. But you are there for an official interview. This is not coffee with your girlfriends.

We showed up in a shirt and tie for me and a skirt and top for my wife. I think it made a difference in how we were treated.

Dress respectfully. They do.

Rick

Good advise

Hi Everyone,

Ok....Here's an extra thought.....

We are paying them to do their job too......Shouldn't we be telling them what to wear, instead of them telling us what to wear?...

Lol..Then again, it's all neutral.....

We give them money (a lot of money by the way)....So we can have an opinion about what they wear....

They give us the visa/green card/citizenship....And they can have an opinion about what we wear.....

Lol...Though in the grand scheme of things, I don't care what they wear, and they shouldn't care what I wear...

As long as it is not offensive, improper, distasteful, etc. then so be it.... :star:

We dress decent, comfortable, and confident....They dress decent.....It all works out well....:)

Either way, good luck with all your interviews and immigration journeys too, no matter what you wear!

For my interview I just wore nice black pants, black flats, and a nicer shirt. No biggie, I've heard people wear all sorts of different things (saw that there too), but I think wearing something nice proves you're serious about the whole process and you respect the embassy. I don't know, I think the interview it a big deal - and they definitely notice everything there!!! Good luck :)

In theory government are public servants. Unfortunately that's not how it works in practice. Government owns us in every way and we are FORCED to pay taxes.

People subconsciously react to how other people look - it isn't a conscious choice. If you look scruffy and have ill-fitting clothes that need repair, the initial response is usually a negative one. If you look neat, tidy, attractively dressed in appropriate clothes the initial response is a positive one. If you are dressed in clothes that are inappropriate for the occasion, you get a less than positive sub-conscious response. When we go for an interview we want to create a positive impression so while it is the documentary evidence that is supposed to carry the weight of whether we succeed or not, dressing in such a way as to evoke the desired response is a good thing. You need to use every 'tool' to your personal advantage. In this case, dressing to create a positive image of a trustworthy, successful, taking-this-business-seriously person can only help with the interview. My 2 cents worth, anyway :) .

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Santa Claus was German though. The embassy might get suspicious over the interviewee's alleged Canadian residency. :P
