I read an article on the net about preparing for your interview.

It stated that your should regard the interview the same as a job interview and to dress the part.

I'm no slob, but I can't see myself wearing dress pants and heels to the interview in Vancouver in the rain and snow.

Anyone here already experienced Vancouver interview?

Did you dress up or just go as yourself?

Hi KarenElizabeth,

I've moved your post from the K-1 forum to the Canada Regional forum so you can get the advice of Canadian K-1ers who have gone through their interview in Vancouver.

( Mlod hat off:)

For myself - I went through Montreal and dressed in business casual so not quite as dressy as for a job interview but still neat and professional looking. It was Winter so I just wore my boots.

Okay, let's look at this. You are entering a US Consulate. Not a bar. If you think that dressing well doesn't count, then fine. Dress as you want. But you are there for an official interview. This is not coffee with your girlfriends.

We showed up in a shirt and tie for me and a skirt and top for my wife. I think it made a difference in how we were treated.

Dress respectfully. They do.

If Vancouver is like Montreal, you'll be interviewed behind a window. I don't suggest wearing high heels, since they most likely won't see your feet.

Pants optional?

Seriously though...I agree with what the others have said. Dress nicely. The whole "first impression" thing. It IS one of the most important meetings of your life, after all. No sense in wearing flip-flops and a rhinestone-laden t-shirt.

I wore a pair of dress pants, a button up blouse and my leather high heel boots. You could totally get away with a darker pair of "dressy" jeans and nice shirt/blouse.

Semi-casual and put together, doesn't have to be over the top.

Best of luck to you!

I just wore jeans and a kind of dressier shirt (one from marks, its like a cheater shirt, looks like it has a white collered shirt underneath). I wore the jeans cuz I wanted to be warm and really, they don't see much below the waste anyway.

I wore a nice tank top, jeans and sneakers to my interview, and that was fine. I wanted to be comfortable. I looked presentable but certainly not dressy. I figured since I got married in jeans and a hockey jersey (and sneakers), and they already had numerous photos of my wedding, I wouldn't be fooling anybody by dressing fancy for the interview. That was in Montreal, though.

I went in November for my interview, no snow or rain or anything, but I wore black dress pants, a blouse, and a blazer. Earings, dress shoes (not high heels). I looked smart, not overly dressed, but professional. A professional fiancee?:lol:

I wore black dress pants and a sweater, along with my leather jacket (it was COLD that morning!). I did wear my sneakers though - realized I didn't bring dress shoes to Montreal after I got there, and was in no mood to go shopping for them.

Just to echo other people - you don't have to look like you're dressed for a State dinner or anything, but I'd think it'd be beneficial to look like you put a little effort into it.

I had my interview on Nov 13 and wore a nice white sweater, dark jeans and running shoes... however, it was so cold even in the consulate (for me anyway, I was prolly nervous!) that I had my coat on the whole time :P

I think you should wear what is considered "appropriate" clothing -- like, might not be a good idea to come in a tank top and super short shorts or skirt... but I dont think its necessary to dress up for it. Some of the folks working in the consulate were just in t-shirts :)

Finally married... and still married... ;)

I don't even remember what I wore - that's how unimportant it was....I 'think' i wore jeans or dockers and a nice top - jeans can look pretty dressy depending on the accessories. Everyone has their normal comfort level, go with what you normally wear.

Of course - avoid holes, rips or derogatory tshirt sayings....best to leave those at home for that day.

Before anyone jumps in - I work every day in an office and wear dress clothes, but I think it's a total crock and can just as easily sit in my office in jeans as a business suit....but that's just my opinion
