I sent my husband a copy of the packet I sent USCIS for the CR1 visa. He noted a mistake I had made on one of the documents. What is the best way to correct this? Do I call USCIS and let them know? Will I need to send in evidence? Is it best to do this ahead of time to just head it off before they ask?

What sort of error is it?

Information about his father's place of birth. We had been working with the older form version and then switched to the newer one and I think that's where my confusion came from. Basically I put "unknown" under his father's place of birth but it was the birthdate (month/day) that was unknown. I need to change the unknown to the city/country of birth.

Just wait until you get an RFE for it (if they will RFE you for it).

I'm not sure about that, since I did a K-1.

Maybe someone will come along who did a CR-1 that can answer that for you.

Just put the correct information on the 230.. That is the info that NVC and the consulate will go by... I doubt they will notice the discrepancy... I messed up my mother-in-laws name on the 325, then we put the correct name on the 230... Dont stress

I messed up both my parents' location of birth on the I-130 (how does USCIS know where my Canadian parents were born - they don't so no RFE was issued). However, I did correct it on the DS-230 which I was asked about at the interview. I explained my mistake and that was it.

No worries, you're fine. Just correct the mistake and you'll be fine.
