Yeah, sounds like they're filling out the I-134 for you. I'd call them and see what they're doing, you did hire them after all.

Don't do it.

As someone who lived in Phuket (Kamala) and Bkk for years i'm telling you not to do it. There are a bunch of considerations you have to think about first. The money can come LASt but if you don't want to get duped for all your cash don't worry about that first.

PM me and I will explain.

For a B-2 shes going to have to prove the the CO that she has very strong ties to her country. You said she is from a poor area and that she has not that much money? If she has no job or not in school, no children she is leaving behind (if applicable), no assets, they will probably not let her enter as a tourist. It is the CO's position to think everyone that wants to visit to the USofA is potentially trying to immigrate here and w/out strong ties and (I do not know if Thailand is a high visa fraud country or not) Even with the best ties to a country a tourist visa can be denied with no ryhme or reason, just gut intuition from the CO.

My fiance was able to obtain a B-2, so I'm not trying to tell you this is impossible either. But she will have a lot to prove and it is a ####### shoot at best. The only thing I sent to my fiancee (who wasn't my fiance at the time) was a letter stating that I would personally see to it that she would have a place to stay and that I would personally drive her to the airport to return to her country. Honestly, I think the CO could of cared less about my letter.

There was no affidavit of support, no money sent to some bizzarro agency. She just had strong ties and we were extremely lucky. She paid for her own interview and I helped pay for the plane ticket and for the stuff we did when she was here.

There are a lot of shady "visa services" in Thailand. Some of them attempt to get Thai nationals tourist visas by fabricating documents. She's not going to get a tourist visa, so don't even bother. Spend some time getting to know her, visit a few more times, and then, if everything feels right, propose and file for a K1. That's your best and safest bet.

I found VJ more than a month before actually filing the K-1

at a time at which I had truly had my fill of lawyers and

the way they deal with clients (mostly prolonging the process).

My fiancée mentioned early on if I thought it was a good idea

to hire a "visa specialist" but I didn't have to be a rocket

scientist to discover that wasn't necessary from seeing how

our friends did it with the help of VJ resources.

There are books out there for around $70 that promote themselves

as visa application solutions (complete with telephone support)

but lawyers and visa assistants are for the most part a waste of time

unless there is some statutory infraction or something in the

status of one or both parties that would be a red flag for visa fraud.

Then it's time to get a lawyer, not just a visa assistant.

The OP here seems to have got off on the wrong foot but if he wants

to do the homework he can get on the right track.

He seems to suspect now that they are doing a K-1 for him but what he actually thinks about that is still not clear.

There are agencies in so many countries that advertise they can get a US tourist visa for a native. They can't. The U.S. Department of State has issued warnings about these scams. I notice now that she is hooked up with the agency herself. Why?

Anyway, send no money, no financial information or identity stuff -- I am sure it will all be misused and a waste of time/dollars on your part.

She may be an unwitting partner in all of this...

That may be the optimistic view and the one taken in a US court of law but to me it sounds

inconceivable that she doesn't have a clue as to whether she is going to be a tourist or fiancée.

Men & women think differently. It's not just a Thai thing.

but  for this post in any case.

I suggest "Do Not" marry a girl from a poor family.

I am sure there are millions of girls over there from middle class to upper class families.

Try to get one with a college degree, So that way when she gets here she can go to work and make you lots of money

So you are applying for a fiancee visa for her? Because as far as I know, there is no such thing as sponsoring a tourist/visitor visa.

Wow ok, I was told it was a 3 month visa, mayby it's a fiancee visa.. I'll get clarification on that. very good catch.

Does this prcoess sound like it's inline with a fiancee Visa?

A lawyer told you to pay this, do that and you're not sure if you're getting a fiancé or "tourist friend with benefits?"

As far as the latter, there is no such thing.

Read the guides and do the process yourself if you are serious.

If you are both serious you shouldn't need a lawyer.

If not, you can travel to Phuket any time.

You might even fall in love.

Just be sure what you're getting into.

How did you come to visit the lawyer in the first place?

Did she recommend it without telling you it was a fiancée visa?

Ya, well I don't mind paying a few bucks if it means I could get her here to spend some more quality time. I just want to make sure there is not a scam going on here. They also want me to fill out an affidavit of support. indicating I'll take care of her while she is here. I've got life lock, hopefully that helps with the potential Identity issues. On a side note this girl quit her Job in Phuket and moved in with her sister in Bangkok so she could work with this TSL company. She indicated that she is going back to her home town to process paper work soon.

:reading:

With all due respect you haven't acknowledged that you in fact know what kind of "arrangement" you're getting into.

Do you think the GIRL or the LAWYER or BOTH are scamming you - but 3 parties (her, you and lawyer) are involved and only 2 know it's a fiancée visa

I think it must have been lost in translation, or glossed over. i think this is a reputable firm

Ok, so she supposedly went to the US Embassy to get advice on how to proceed in Bangkok and was referred to this TSL agency. Trust me I want to take it slow. I'm just looking for a way to spend more time with Her. Getting her to come visit works out well as I don't need to take more vacation to spend time with her. The money is not a problem for me, Unless someone is trying to scam me out of it.

It does sound allot like it's a fiancée visa based on what you folks are saying. This entire bank about thing is really weird. They are asking for paystubs, tax returns. Man I just don't know. Seems odd. Yet I've seen post out there where people have recommended TSL Associates. They indicated this stuff is required by the US Embassy. They also said that they don't want to send a person without fanatical means from Thailand to the us. Hence money needed in her account. Like I said. Sounded fishy, hence my post and questions.

Sounds like you need to contact this agency and see WHAT visa they are applying her for... Sounds like the K1 Fiance visa...

 What I don't get is do these guys fill out the forms without giving the CLIENT a copy?

A verbal promise is made that the efforts will result in a visa or they will apply again if needed. This is a way to insure the client feels they will succeed. These agencys know the tourist visa is almost never granted but as here on V J they take them on a case by case basis & dont turn down income.

The client is given a copy when the documents are complete. These agencys are manned by employees that are not fluent in English so many of the terms used are not used correctly. Sponsor for example. To them he is the sponsor no matter what visa they are trying to get. The people working at the agencys are mostly innocent. The owners know exactly what they are doing to run the scams they run because most of them are Thai lawyers. They are in it because of the income not because they believe in providing a service.

The documents are completed & sent over to the embassy by the agency prior to the interview. The client is briefed just prior to that interview. The documents are returned to the client when the interview is complete if requested.

Thais are not experianced in the laws of the USA & dont know much about the visa process. Many of them get their info from others on the street. I was suprised at how much a Thai cab driver would know for example.

I think she is a unwitting participant as well. She is simply ignorant of the types of visas & is going along with the info she is given & is in hopes of doing whatever she can to further the relationship. The agency may have confused her as well because of the flurry of activity that occures.

I saw red flags from reading the first post.

then she quit her job to live near this agency to get the paperwork done? whether or not she knows the ins and outs of what is happening doesn't mean that an agency should be taking steps FOR you and this woman--for a tourist visa or a fiance visa. When papers are sent with your name and information it implicates you at some level.

You are in control of this situation, that is until you give away your personal details and your cash...
