Just after an approximate figure here, basically we want to have most of the total funds saved before starting the application process. Don't want to miss a deadline because we don't have the ready cash.

So cost of filing fees in US for all the relevant forms?

Add to that medical fees?

Police check?

Visa application fee at embassy?

Medical?

All the things I have missed?

Cost of being with the guy I love? Priceless

$2338 at todays exchange rates*. It was much higher when we did the visa. This includes application fees, courier of documents across the pond, passport style photos, medical exam, coach to London, hotel the night before the interview, certified copies of documents, marriage license, AOS fees, mailing fees.

Add on another $2000 for shipping and insuring 24 boxes of stuff.

Does not include cost of wedding, plane ticket, or paying to have a gazillion photocopies made.

*Expenses may vary.

 Yes, I kept a spreadsheet of costs.

You are very organised! I'm too scared to even know what we've spent over the almost seven years we've been together much less this visa process!

Ours came to a total of $1001 for the K1 process. That includes application fees, medical exam, passport photos and police check.

Add on the AOS and it comes to $2181 (not including flights, marriage license and wedding stuff).

We spent over $7000 on flights in our time together.

Wow, it really WAS expensive! Luckily, my VJ came to an end today, for the next 2 years. :)

Congrats, Gemmie! It's good to be done for 2 years, I bet. :)

Ours came to about $1000 for the whole K-1 thing (129F, medical, visa app, courier, all required... the rest is dependent on your circumstances)

Ian threw most of his stuff out before he moved, so he only had flight baggage to be concerned with. Flight home: About $700.

Our was just north of $10K between all the filing, travel back and forth (every 3 months while waiting), couriers, shipping, etc. We topped the $10K mark when I splurged on business class tickets for us both when she moved here (I went over to help her pack).

And like you, our VJ is also on a 2 year hiatus as of today  !! She doesn't know and I believe Santa is going to leave it under the tree for her. :innocent:

I don't even dare to try and guess how much we've spent. In the time we've known each other, I think my fiance has paid out $20,000 on visits alone. I think I'm probably being generous to estimate even that much-it's probably much, much higher.

I'm actually not too sure about how much we've spent on the k1 process itself. My fiance transferred about £900 into my account last January, and I've been dipping into that money for anything visa related that I can't afford by myself.

It's very difficult to estimate how much the k1 process costs, since everyone's case will vary.

I'd probably be being generous if I said that we'll have paid less than $1000 at the end of this (and that's assuming we are approved, or don't have to pay out any additional costs for more evidence, etc).
