Hi,

I personally am using a lawyer that specializes in K-1 visa's.I didnt know anything about the process before i found this site and I heard a few horror stories about people doing it themselves and having all kinds of mistakes that led to alot of undo delays.To me the little extra money spent on an attorney who specializes in this type of visa is a good investment for peace of mind.

I think this poll would be slightly biased considering that people who would have taken a lawyer who found this site instead, would read the guides, ask questons and start doing the work themselves...

I do agree that if your cse isn't complicated, do it yourself. All it takes is a little time to research the process and make sure you have all the required documents. It saved me thousands of dollars by doing it myself. I really don't think the process would have went any faster by using an attorney.

We never even consider hiring one. And for what we hear about it, it's a waste of money and time.

We "mixed between 1 and 2", meaning we did the I-130 part ourselves, then hired lawyer for our K3 part, then back to DIY for our AOS. Smooth sailing ... but our lawyer was worth it

Fired his ###!!!!!!! Paid $2,000 to have our petition sent to the wrong center and 2 RFE's thrown in for good measure. He had the cajones to ask for $1500 to file AOS/EAD. Here is where we parted ways.

We called a lawyer, who said 'just get married, don't leave the States and I'll fix it for you'. Thank God I'd already found visajourney and knew that was not the right thing to do!

We did it ourselves since we had a pretty straightforward case.

I work with lawyers. I wouldn't trust one as far as I could throw him.

I have three friends who did K-1s and then green cards with lawyers, two of them had major problems with the visa (so they did the AOS and LoC by themselves). The one who had no problems with the visa then used a lawyer for the AOS, and he screwed up the EAD application (failed to notice a fee change, IIRC).

No thank you, in other words.
