Has anyone else just had their christmas and new year plans ruined by the greedy *!@%! at British Strikeways? I was due to fly with them on christmas eve. I can't get any information cos the phonelines tell you they are very busy and to try again later and cut you off! Nice! Thanks!:angry::angry:

I'm so sorry for you - hope you can still make it for Christmas! Fingers crossed for you. If approved on Thursday - I was hoping to book my tickets with BA for 29th Dec. BA are not taking bookings at the moment so, I guess that's me stuffed  And all the other airlines will be taking the overflow!!! They sure love to spread the festive cheer don't they? :(

Yeah and they claim they took the decision to screw up a million families christmases with a heavy heart! Uh huh!

I can't do a thing right now cos if I cancel and go to another airline I lose all my money. I have to wait for BA to cancel and by that time it will be harder to get anything else and will cost a fortune. And I'm not entitled to any compensation cos strike action is outwith their control!

I'm sooooo sorry to anyone this is going to affect!!! Just as I saw it on the news I was having my own dilemma with Continental Airways and my bank - continental saying the payment for my flights wasn't approved and the bank saying Continental displayed 'suspicious activity' on my account but the payment was approved and just not accepted. I lost the reservations I had but managed to get different dates and they matched the price.

I just read an article that said DO NOT CANCEL on your own before BA cancels the flight. If you do, you will lose the money, but if BA cancels (which they will have to unless this strike doesnt happen), then all money will have to be refunded. The strike could always get cancelled. Sit tight and good luck!

I'm so, so sorry for everyone who is affected by this. :(

I hope you all manage to get your money back, or at least get another flight out.

this line from the mail is giving me a little hope

Frances Tuke, of the travel agents organisation ABTA, said people would be entitled to refunds if their flights were cancelled, but that it was possible strike action could still be averted as negotiations took place between unions and British Airways bosses.

She said: 'At this stage, our advice would be to sit tight and see what happens in the next 24 hours.

'It looks as if both sides are continuing to negotiate and we're still hoping it might be called off.'

I really will never fly BA again if they strike......if the flight is canceled it will cost twice as much to book another airline. It's only one week before christmas!

I decided on the more expensive continental flights because I'm used to them and know the airports, BA was 2nd dearest and I was tempted to book with them except for having to go through London Heathrow. Earlier today though KLM were doing flights Glasgow-Amsterdam-Memphis-Arkansas for £542 compared to the £685 I paid for Glasgow-Newark-Arkansas so there are reasonably priced flights out there. Last twice I have booked I did my searches on Kayak.co.uk and they were cheaper and more reliable than any of the other sited I used. Priceline had good prices but when you clicked to select them it said 'no longer available' and took you to a more expensive option each time. I really hope everyone manages to get things rearranged, I would be climbing the walls if it were me. I hope the next 24hours brings you all some good news!!!!

oh yeah, I was trying to fly out next Monday (21st) but because of the problem between continental and my bank I'm now going Sunday 20th both of which are before the strike dates, but I had been looking at flights right up until the 24th.

so long as you don't bank with Halifax and try to book with continental!!!

As for the plane, lmao, I was telling my other half about a website called freecycle the other day n said "it's cool, my sis uses it over here and she's gotten furniture and photography equipment, and, and.." and Michael's reply was "maybe someone will have an aeroplane they don't need anymore and I can fly over there and get you". He can't fly but has a friend who is a pilot, well a helicopter pilot anyways.

This would explain why when I looked at ticket prices from Edinburgh to Arkansas today they were between $1200 and $3000. *barfs*
