what is the best way to insure our personal possessions in the US while we apartment hunt, before getting home insurance. also the same goes for temporary medical insurance?

can anyone shed any light on this?

both of us (USC and British citizen) are currently living in the UK but will be moving out the the US when we get the K1 visa in Jan. we will be living in hotels until we find an apartment and are worried about the security of our things.

thanks in advance!

I know you don't have to be a homeowner to insure your belongings. There is renter's insurance for people in apartments. I'm not sure how that works with a hotel, but likely the same. You might get a better answer by calling an agent in the state where you will live and see what their policy is. Insurance varies depending on the state where you reside. There's probably ways to email a question to insurers like State Farm, Allstate, etc.
