The idea that you can just up and get a new pet seems vaguely insulting to my mind.

Wait until some of your beloved pets are rats...

and your next door neighbor is missing their pet python.......

I think cats are $20 at the local shelter..... too much if you ask me..... :P

If you get the $20 cat you're usually required to get them spayed/neutered, all shots, RFID'd and other related fees. Ends up being somewhere between $60-$100 before it's all said and done.

Depends on where you live but you can sometimes get a free cat with none of that stuff required.

This explains why...

1. we consumed over 50,000 rounds of ammunition for each confirmed enemy kill during the VietNam war

Yep, sometime around Korea, folks forgot to pass on the tradition of Marksmanship. Too busy making refrigerators and such, I guess.

2. Use enough gun. Much cheaper to pay for a new cat than a veterinarian.

Same applies with concealed carry.

=he idea that you can just up and get a new pet seems vaguely insulting to my mind.

Well, you're probably one of those people that would save a cat over a kid in a fire - or at least argue the cat has just as much right to life as the kid does. Not trying to pass judgement on you, I don't know you well enough to say which one you'd save, but there are people out there who'd reach for a cat over a kid every day of the week. That's just plain wrong.

We are humans. We are at the top of the food chain and we are master of animals. Animals are animals. They're not people, they're not members of your family... at most, they're pets. Sometimes pets die. That's a fact of life. I'm sad when my pets die too, but I realize they're pets.

G-d gave man dominion over the animals. This does not mean His divine intent was for us as humans to mistreat them. I am sure the Almighty loves ALL of His creations. In fact, he spared them from the flood, he made the donkey talk when it's master was severely beating him, and it is written that there are animals in heaven.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

How is refusing to pay $5000 in medical bills mistreatment?

I'm pretty sure most folks would agree your kid should warrant $5000 in medical bills... but your cat?

Also, the donkey talked in Shrek.

That is why it is important to use enough gun. Pigs generally take a lot more killing than cats, so I cannot imagine what this guy was using or where he went wrong in his aim, but then, he thought a cat was a pig.

Don't be bloody stupid, slim. It doesn't require imagination or discussion to arrive at the conclusion that people get attached to their pets and suggesting that they are somehow disposable is rather insensitive.

ehh, I admit, I love animal more than human  .

This cat is lucky - at least the neighbor is offering to help with the vet cost, and that show that he regrets his behavior so I wouldnt press charge if I were the owner.

Not all animals. Four hoofs and bleating -- now we're talking.

No arguing, a neighbor shooting someone's pet is mistreatment. But, the point I tried to raise was paying $5,000 in medical bills for a household pet is outrageous.

Don't be bloody stupid, slim. It doesn't require imagination or discussion to arrive at the conclusion that people get attached to their pets and suggesting that they are somehow disposable is rather insensitive.

I keep hearing bloody more and more from you guys... what's that mean, anyway?

As for cats being disposable, I never made that suggestion. What I did was make the reference to the relatively low cost of a new pet as opposed to paying $5,000 in medical bills for an old one. I don't care how strong the attachment is, when you're talking $5,000 for an animal that was free or around $100, you're talking crazy talk to me. There has to be a line drawn somewhere. If someone got on here and said $100,000 was too much, would that be more convincing?

Look, I'm not trying to say people shouldn't try to save their animals when bad things happen to them. All I'm saying is there are folks out there who place no dollar amount or value on their animal's life. That is crazy. We've all got a price!

How should I put this? It's not exactly your business to question what people choose to spend their money on.

Why not? Everything on the internet is my business.

Yours too. And so is how you spend your money.

And so it becomes your right to question as well.
