You know what upset me most about the whole election in Houston? I was reading the Houston Chronicle about it, and they endorsed candidates. When did the media so completely lose their objectivity that they ENDORSE CANDIDATES? That is so wrong, and just kills the whole theory of an informed populance, never mind freedom of speech.

Actually, to clarify, I was also totally ticked off at the attacks on the candidate's sexual orientation. What does it matter? Why even bother commenting on it? It does not affect her ability as mayor. It's just part of her background story.

It's a long held tradition of newspaper editorial pages to endorse a candidate.

Really? I originally come from Saskatchewan, and it was never done their. Is this an American thing?

Duuuuh.... that's cuz SK does not have newspapers :secret:

SK does have Burton CUMmings, however.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Voter turnout constituted a whopping 16.5% of the Houston electorate... meaning that whoever was elected to ANY office received an indisputably overwhelming mandate.
That statement just doesn't make sense. An 83.5% voter apathy rate just doesn't equate into a mandate.
'Twas wry facetiousness, si man, sans emoticon to tip it off.

Some people just don't do deadpan, apparently.

Canadian papers have traditionally done so as well.

Here is the Globe & Mail's endorsement of Stephen Harper just prior to the last federal election:

He hails from Manitoba, not Saskatchewan. Once you get out on the Prairies of course, it's all rather disorienting....

You will have to ask my husband... it is a well known fact he manages my *ahem* career  ---almaty has tried to sell pirate copies, but was caught recently.

So your husband hasn't posted this stuff yet?

One day, after repeated b!tching sessions by my wife about why we don't live in a beachfront mansion and she has to work, etc., I explained to her that we could make a whole bunch of money by doing nothing more than having sex once or twice a week..... She didn't buy it.

I don't follow you. How does being an openly gay mayor translate to representing only homosexuals?

It doesn't. What it translates to is everyone else feeling so obligated to be inclusive they feel they have to elect an openly gay mayor or else they're not giving "the gays" a fair shot. Kind of like what happened in November when folks didn't use their heads to elect a good leader for our country - they elected who the media told them was "good for everyone, equally."

My local paper did this too. One is supposed to keep in mind these are just endorsements, much like when Lil John or Justin Timberlake or even Sean Penn endorses a candidate. It's nothing more than an opinion.

Would you be so kind as to provide a link which backs up this statement? Was it from an exit poll?

I don't have a link for an exit poll, but I have a pretty good example in the White House right now. I could probably find you a link for that one... hold on.......
