Sometimes the reason something is funny is because the person concerned is dead serious.

I spent 1 year in the Middle East & 2 years in Africa and I discovered that people

are able to amuse themselves and their friends without TV and the movies.

Even if they DID have TV and movies they didn't lose the ability to sing, bang on

a trash can, play bongos or do a dance that was crazy to everybody except them.

My kids are totally lost without electronic amusements. These people will always

find joy, no matter how nutty it looks to outsiders.

We too have our "crazy uncles" who sing off-key when armed with enough whiskey sours.

The dance routine in "Zorba The Greek" was fake and totally made up (there is no Greek dance like that)

but nobody seemed to care (and from Anthony Quinn's autobiography he was doing it on a bum ankle

as well) and everybody had great fun.
