Hi all,

Im about to file I 130 and I 485 for my wife ( Korean citizen ).

Im a US citizen and my wife is in the US with the turist visa which expires next month.

I have a question.

Do I need to submit original certified copy for the marriage certificate ( took place in the US last month ) , photo copy of my

wife's passport, my natulization certificate and my official name change document?

Some say I can just send a photo copy and others say that I must send the certified one.

If I do have to get the certified one sent, where do I get them? Is any notary public can certify any copies? or should I go to a government

agency?

Thanks in advance for everything,

You can send in a photocopy of the certified marriage certificate. Some have even sent in a photocopy of a general marriage certificate but I would recommend spending the extra cash and getting a certified copy (we even got an exemplified copy but I don't think we had to). You can send a request to the office where you got the marriage license and they will mail you back the certified copy (it's called a certified copy b/c the marriage license office will always have your original MC. Once you get the certified copy, make a photocopy (keep the actual for yourself and bring it to the interview) and send that in with the package!

About the "certified" issue:

NOWHERE, on ANY of the official instruction pages that go along with each AOS form does it mention send a "certified" copy, only "legable photocopy and original when requested" follow the OFFICIAL instructions and use the instructions on this webpage only as a guide, some of the info on here is Way wrong.

Take the marriage certificate, put it in a copy machine and press start, if there's a seal on the back, make a copy of that too, if you wanna be fancy, make a color copy of the seal, but really just an ordinary black and white photocopy is fine, don't stress yourself out about getting it "certified" and pay the money for it... it's totally unnecessary, they ask you to take all the originals to the interview anyways and make Their Own copies of the originals that they want and don't take yours.
