Has hepatitis (A, B, and C ) been ruled out?

Did all the tests including an untra sound of the liver just in case. My antinuclear anitbodies were elevated but lupus was also ruled out.

Oh, fibro. Soooo many drug-seekers who never think that losing weight, quitting smoking, and generally being healthy might do something.

I have a very good friend who has been battling fibromyalgia for years. After many tests, trials of different treatment protocols, diets and medication she is on a regime right now that is workinng the best. It does include diet modification, walking as exercise, reduced stress (hard to do sometimes) and medication. Some days she is good; others she can barely get out of bed because of the pain. She is not now and never has been overweight. She does not and never has smoked. She was working as a nurse when the condition first attacked her and was forced to stop working because she could not keep up a regular work schedule. Fibromyalgia is a lifelong condition and it does affect everyone in a different way. Keep trying different protocols and hopefully you will find one that works the best for you. In Canada, it has finally been recognized as a legitimate condition to qualify for a disability pension. The medical profession is beginning to come around to recognizing it as a legitimate condition even though they haven't identified the cause(s) and there is no definitive test as yet. Good luck - it is not a fun prognosis at all.

It may help. If it were that easy don't you think most ppl suffering from this would?

Oh, fibro. Soooo many drug-seekers who never think that losing weight, quitting smoking, and generally being healthy might do something.

Unfortunately, I don't think the condition is a simplistic as you are suggesting it is and somewhat insulting to ppl that are in legit pain from this a lot of Fibro patients do not take PK's for the simple fact that they do not want to add an opiate dependency to their laundry list of problems . If they are looking for drugs why not say they have lower back pain? You are probably more apt to get a PK that way then saying "Fibro" and any patient that has diagnosed themselves w/ Fibro and asked for pain meds would be not taken seriously. Doctors make the prognosis not the patient and medicate accordingly.

Some of the patients I have worked with would have won the academy award for the display of pain I have seen with this at times. It is not like they are calling out of sick to work, more like writhing in pain and discomfort. I have also seen the Doc's put them on anti-depression meds as well as this condition can have serious demoralizing effects on a person.

Actually Hanna the people I've known were slim, non-smoking middle aged adults. But I do think there is a big sliver of truth to your speculation. :D

What really sucks about this is it's one of those conditions that not everyone believes in and is sometimes referred to as "phantom pain." One doc will say it's a serious case of fibromyalgia and then the next doc will say "the patient seems to be exhibiting pain-like symptoms from X area although no problems have been found."

I know a girl with one leg, and she sometimes gets "phantom pain" in her leg that's not there anymore. The docs all take her seriously and her leg's gone. Yet, they seem hesitant to believe my dad even though his back, neck, feet, etc. are all still there. What gives, docs?

I've noticed a huge trend when it comes to workman's comp docs.... they're a little less believing than the docs you pay for. Coincidence? I think not.

My dad's recently started taking Lyrica in the past year or two. I wanna say it's for his restless leg syndrome but it may be for fybromyalgia too. I can't keep all that stuff straight. I just know he's in constant pain and is constantly doped up. Some days he's good, some days, not so much. Either way though, he's not the same guy he used to be so I know whatever it is that's going on... it's something.

Phantom pain is serious stuff too. The brain still thinks the missing body part is still there, and still injured due to the trauma's effect on activating central pain pathways. You know how they treat that with a mirror box right?

Fibromyalgia doesn't have this simple approach, sadly. Its origin is mostly unknown and very much likely from multiple sources- hence why its called 'idiopathic.'

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

fibro is a great disease to pretend you have if you are a malingerer.

So is the common cold. What is your point?

This is what I am doing, diet change and exercise. I had a horrible episode last night be am good today. As long as I can get back to the gym, walk and play golf I will be happy.

Fortunately for me I contracted this at 60 but my daughter contracted it at 31. Ugh, I feel so badly for her.

I don't think Fibroymalgia is even considered to be a disease, I think it is classed as a syndrome. I would love to have some of the nay-sayers endure the pain and see what they would think then!

 I certainly am no malingerer. I have not missed a minute's worth of work from this and have no intentions to in the future.
