AP Followed by 221g please help :(

Hi all

we spoke with the embassy representative this morning and told them i am going to submit the Passport at VFS on monday personally as suggested in the 221g which we got on 4th Dec 2009. When i asked them should i wait in Delhi till my visa gets pasted on the passport and they replied it will be a waste of time for you because i am on Mandatory Adminstrative Prossesing and it can take upto two months. On the day of interview i was told that there is nothing wrong in our case and the only thing which i need to do is submit the new passport at the nearest VFS. I have to fly from Srinagar to Delhi to submit the passport and i am not sure will that be worth or should i wait till the AP gets over and then submit the new passport. I dont know what that AP is all about and how to overcome it. Is there anything which i can do to help myself out of this situtaion. Two months seems a very long time as we are planning a Christmas wedding. Please help

Don`t wait at all to deposit your passport, like they said AP can take anything from a few days to a couple of months, but not haveing submitted yr passport may only further delay the whole process. You are lucky as it is to have had a new passport made in a short period of time. Some people aren`t that lucky.

To add to my previous reply, no matter what our US govt. might claim there does seem to be a racial/regional profiling that takes place. For instance almost all muslim males interviewing at Islamabad are placed under AP. I guess what they do is additional background or name checks. Being an American I feel bad for all aliens who have to go through ...... I guess the govt. has to take all necessary steps to make sure that the country is protected.

Instead of flying down to Delhi will they let you send your passport through overnight courier??

AYE Jack! Thank you very much for your reply. I did spoke with the VFS reprsentative yesterday and they told me i cant send any of the documents through courier. I have to submit the Documents personally or some representative can submit on my behalf. But honestly i dont trust people who can submit on my behalf simply because i have been betrayed before and i am not ready to take any chance. I trust myself only when it comes to delicate decisions and that is why i am going to Delhi to submit the documents by myself.

Yeah i do also think i am lucky to get my new passport in just two days. As far as i know it takes a minumum of 6 months to get a new or duplicate passport in Kashmir Valley because of the security reasons

the additional background checks are usually when they make sure your name is not matching any current terrorist activities. i have seen AP last anywhere from a couple of days to over a year. the positive note about AP, is if you come out clean, they have no problems issuing the visa. again, they only give you an "estimate" of when the AP will be completed.

my advice? submit your passport. if they think it will take longer, then chances are, they will return your passport to you just in case you have some other travels you need to make.

there is a thread under the waiver section of this forum, called AP Tracker. it is a good link for not only support, but also to get more of a general idea of how long AP is taking. Good luck

Thank you Twisted k. I am not worried about the background checks. all i am worried about right now is how much time they are going to take.

Hang in there, and I think my fiance was placed in AP as well, but they did not notify him. Why else would they say do not submit your passport? It seems to be common now especially with maile beneficiaries from India. I am sure you will come out of it in no time. Have you submitted your request to get your petition extended. I have emailed the embassy, but now they are not responding to me. I am taking k.lovehs advice and sending them a notarized letter in the mail. On the positive note you have your passport, and I am sure you might come out of it sooner. I was so distraught when I heard that they surprised you with this AP. I called DOS and then they notified that they are doin AP on my fiance. They never told him anything.
