Hello all, I'm currently going through the I-134 form to support my fiance. I just recently finished my job in Japan and will be moving back to the States within 2 weeks.

Since I am in between jobs right now, I had to have my mother be a co-sponsor for the immigrant visa. My question is (since these forms are horribly confusing sometimes) is since I have a co-sponsor, what exactly do I fill out for my sponsorship form? I technically have no job right now, but I have pay stubs, a written letter from my former company and manager, valid tax return from last year (US tax return) and I still have a valid bank account (although the funds in it are fairly low since I've been living in Japan).

I'm not sure what information to provide for me since I'm in between jobs (but getting a new one shouldn't be hard work for what I'm looking for)

Will my mother have to also fill out both I-864 and I-134? I've been reading the instructions but even after a couple of times it all seems Greek to me in what I'm looking for  . Any help would be great...I've searched for answers but can't find anything specific to my issue.

Thanks in advance.

As far as the forms, I believe it is I-864 will be needed on the AOS (once in the US). And I-134 is for the USEM interview.

At this stage you are going to need the form I-134 (I-864 will come later once your fiancé is in the States and apply for the Adjustment of Status).

Even if you have a co-sponsor you need to fill out a I-134 for yourself, along with your tax returns and bank letter (I am guessing from USA is you still have a bank account there). As you guys will be moving back to the States I dont think they will want to see your Japanese paystubs or employment letter as once your fiancé will have her visa you will both move, but it can not hurt for her to bring that paperwork to the embassy too in case.

I am from France, my fiancé had been living here with me for 2 years. He is just now back in the States with a fresh job. We were not sure they would accept us without a co-sponsor because his tax returns were really low as he was a student. So I took all of his financial paperwork with me to the interview + his dad's who was willing to sponsor me. At the embassy they took the paperwork they were interested on, gave me back the rest. They told us we were fine without a co-sponsor so they didnt take my father in law stuff.

My point is, your fiancé should bring the co-sponsor financial file + yours. The embassy will take what they want from it. Include all your Japanese info, if they dont want it they will give it back. And as you have a co-sponsor you will be fine either way.

Thanks for the replies :)

My question still is, since I am currently unemployed do I not fill out question 7? It asks for a name and address of an employer...which I don't currently have. Do I just include paperwork with the form and leave those blank?

This would be my suggestion. Just be truthful and if you want to supplement it with a supporting letter about your contract letter was over and actively looking for employment. And plus you are using a co-sponsor. As long as you meet the requirements you, I do not foresee a big problem.

Addition: if your fiance has a professional background, this somewhat helps because they will also put that into consideration.

 Good luck with your visa journey...

OK thanks! Shouldn't be a problem then. My co-sponsor meets more than enough for the requirements, I am actively looking for a job and my fiance has many years of bank and office work behind her. I dunno if language skill helps but she's pretty advanced in English as well, so finding employment for her in the States shouldn't be an issue once she's able to, other than the economy I guess.

Thank you again for the replies and help :D
