my fiancee will be doing AOS as soon as we get married in may. i have two questions, however.

1) after the aos can we move to a different state?

2) we are wanting to move to portland, oregon. if he wants to become a citizen, where is the closest place for him to do that? ie; get his test, take the oath etc...

05.17.10 - I-485/I-765 mailed

05.25.10 - NoA

06.25.10 - biometrics appt

07.02.10 - emailed that our case is moved to CSC!

07.14.10 - touched

07.21.10 - touched

08.03.10 - approved for EAD

08.05.10 - uscis mailed out EAD

08.09.10 - EAD received!

01.05.11 - a ###### RFE over 6 ###### months after the fact

02.01.11 - touched

02.14.11 - APPROVED (finally)!

02.25.11 - received green card in the mail

DONE WITH USCIS FOR 2 YEARS!

Timeline

1) sure you can move... the alien would submit an AR-11 change of address form and if the sponsor moves they submit an I-865 change of address

2) Citizenship is a minimum three years away after they become a resident.... long time away for that to happen.... USCIS has field offices in most major metropolitan areas... including Portland

You don't need to file the I-865 after the AoS is approved, just the AR-11. Or so I was told by our Interview Officer at our AoS interview last month.

Unfortunately you were told wrong... An I-865 needs to be filed within 30 days of moving for the entire time the I-864 remains in force....

For more info, look at the instructions to the I-865 under the caption "When Should I Use This Form"

Yes, every sponsor and co-sponsor who moves has to file an I-865 until the beneficiary becomes a US citizen.

Hmmmm. I had read that, and specifically asked the interview officer that because we are looking to move soon. I guess I shouldn't take their word as the gospel truth. Thanks :thumbs:
