Ciao a tutti (hi everyone!),

My fiance' is coming here on a K-1 at the beginning of January. I have been communicating w/ him today asking him to go to the comune (city hall) to ask for a few official copies of his BC so we'll have them for the marriage licence, AOS application, etc. He's telling me he can't get multiple copies. I think he's confusing the *original* with *official copies* - i.e. he thinks that they gave him the official copy for our K-1 and that that's all there is. I am trying to explain that City Hall always retains the original because it's a legal document that always stays on file w/ them, and that when we ask them for our BC it's *always* a copy.

Anyhow, I don't know what to tell him. Can you get multiple copies of your BC in Italy? How many did you bring (or are you planning to bring) with you?

Grazie!! (Thanks!!)

Since Italy is far away from USA, I suggest you guys to bring four o five offcial copies of his BC, remember when you will file you will need to translate every foreing language document.

Good Luck...

Yes you can get multiple copies of the BC, you are correct with what you are telling him.

He needs to apply for them at the Office of Vital Statistics (Ufficio di Stato Civile) of the town where he was born or it may be called the Servizi Demografici. There is a fee so he will need to pay the fee for each copy he gets. Also Italian BCs dont have the name of the parents name on them and you need it to have the name of his parent on it....so when he requests the birth certificates he needs to cite..Article 3 of Presidential Decree of May 2, 1957 (No. 432) "...ai sensi dell'art. 3 Decreto Presidente della Republica 2 Maggio 1957." in the letter or if he goes in person he need to make certain to tell them he needs the parents names on the BC.

Hope this helps. Best Wishes.

Just have him get the estratto di Nacita (becuase of EU rules, they will even print it with English/Italian).. The Comune will issue them and they cost like 5 cents for the copy... They will put the stamp on them and sign it... No worries... I say bring about 4 copies.

Ciao
