DARTMOUTH, MASS. (WPRI) - The man convicted of running over and killing a mother duck is sentenced.

Joshua Linhares received 1 year of probation for killing the duck as she walked across the Dartmouth mall parking lot with her 12 ducklings this summer.

Linhares was convicted of animal cruelty by a jury in New Bedford District Court on Tuesday.

Surveillance video taken in the parking lot shows Linhare swerving and speeding up just moments before hitting the duck.

He claims he was distracted by a person in the parking lot waving their arms in the air.

I love roast duck, punishing someone for running over ducks?

Give him community service or something. What's next in the near future? Kill a duck earn a murder conviction?

He intentionally ran over the duck, so it was murder.

Murder most fowl...

In all honesty though, I despise the sort of person who would deliberately speed up and swerve to hit ANY living, non-predatory animal. What mindset could find that action fun or enjoyable? A twisted mindset, to be sure. I'm glad that he got penalized for it, and only wish it included jail time and a full psych evaluation.

Affleck.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

When living in the rural, an idiot landed in the ditch trying to hit my dog. Then he had the nerve of asking me to get my tractor to pull him out. Did get my tractor and towed him much deeper into that ditch, told him I did that in lieu of snapping his neck. Never saw him again.
