When I was growing up, boiling fowl were a popular choice because they were cheap. They make excellent stews/soups and there is nothing inherently inferior or wrong with using it for that purpose. Of course, it would not be a great choice for say pan fried breasts but I can't see those being offered to kids. Mind you, I don't think battery farming is acceptable whatever way you slice it.

Feel quite randy now...

Me and my dad used to keep 300 hens and we had one for lunch every Sunday. We used to go into the shed Saturday night in the dark while they were perching and feel their breasts to see if any had 'gone light' (They do that if they are sick). I guess a few years of that made me such a great lover.

We killed and ate the sick ones. Never had a fit hen, I wonder what they taste like

Also, on bonfire night, they would die of a heart attack with all the explosions. We would go to the shed on the 6th November and eat those too. Full of rigor mortis and looking startled.

Road kill pheasant is nice too

After reading this, I feel as though I could vomit. I could not eat the flesh of something I once took care of.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Cows, most of its meats are consumed. Gelatin made from bone, you don't want to know what meats are combined to form the hot dog (e.g cow #######), tripe, stomache, heart, intestines, etc...I think I have never seen a cow brain sold, but, it maybe combined into hot dogs.

Such a waste to produce a cow just for the muscles (e.g steak). Heck, the skin is used for leather. Why stop with cows.

Hint to the reporter: Salmonella is just as spreadable as new hen meat.

Actually, the brains are considered a delicacy in many countries, although the prions that cause bovine spongiform encephalopathy are also found in the brain and spinal columns of infected cattle, so I doubt I would eat them.

I've never heard the phrase 'spent hen' before, but we used to get boiler hens from the farmer from whom we bought our eggs when I was a girl - the hens that were no longer productive. Mom had a way of preparing them that made them tender and tasty.

Brains are no longer used for food. Recent laws have made it impossible to even use an older cow that has died into dog food.So out to the compost pile they go.

Every animal farmer does it. Pigs/cattle/sheep/hens etc

I had 50 bunnies which I bred for meat. Some went to the packing station for French restaurants and some i shot in the head with my air rifle and fed to my kids.

They had been playing with em the day before

I must admit I used to tell em it was chicken so as not to affect their sensibilities coz that's the kind of sensitive guy I am

When I was 19 I joined the Police Force and my first job was to attend the post mortem of a 19 year old girl who had thrown herself off a high apartment block and landed on her head. Her name was 'Lamb' and they had written it on her inner thigh with indelible ink. It's indelibly printed in my memory.

I was ok as humans are exactly like rabbits inside (mammals you know) but the townies were all fainting.

Never been tempted to eat a person - but I would choose Liz Hurley praps rather than ####### Cheney

The wifes mother's cousin starved to death in china. The last words she said on this earth were I wish I had a piece of meat to eat. I guess some people never went through a hungry time in their lives.

Went to a Hispanic Meat Market last night and Adam asked for cow brains. They said its not being sold so he bought cow hearts and tripe. EWWW! Adam boiled the hearts with chopped onions, salt, pepper, onion and garlic powder then fried them in some oil. I actually tried a small piece of one and it actually tasted like steak or something of that sort. But I doubt I'd be eating a plate of cow hearts. When we were leaving the market, he said he forgot to ask about some other stuff and that he loves to eat the cow ####### and balls and brains. Im like great Adam... you going to go up to some dude and ask to buy some ####### bcz #######' taste SO good!:rofl:

This thread is spiralling out of control !

My head is full of surreal thoughts but I am spoiled for choice !

I would draw the line at a moo moo's todger hot dog with sauerkraut and mustard on - definitely

My dad used to deliver turkeys at xmas for the coop. One xmas the fridge bust and the turkeys were almost green/purple. He delivered em nevertheless and one customer said it was the tastiest she had ever eaten

Really it was too stinky to bury without a face mask

Better or worse than squirrel?

If you'd ever been to Africa, you'd know that the answer to that question is worse than squirrel. Squirrel was about the only meat I enjoyed on my first trip there.

Apparently those parts of cows are very normal in Egypt. Still cant imagine eating it myself, and no smooching with him on those days if he does find what hes looking for!

You know, my favorite part of the cow is not just the lean muscles, but the tripes, and intestines. We often go to the butcher barn to collect the fresh intestines. There's a nearby hose so we can push all the poop out of it by inserting the hose inside. I love them! What!? Cows eat mostly grass. What's so disturbing about their poop?

Well, since we figured out a nice way to cook the hearts, and now have a pound of tripe. What way do you suggest to cook the cow tripe. Ive never in my life cooked such stuff... any ideas would be cool

Depends on how you want it. You want to make sure when you cook it, give it enough time so the tripe becomes tender. They require more time to tenderize them compared to muscle meat unless you buy them pre-boiled.

My wife have some ingredients used to flavorized them that she made prior. She used ginger, spices, garlic, curry sauce. Well, I have no idea how to interpret Asian cusine into Westernized cooking vocabulary. But, it's good. Sorry if I couldn't help anymore with the cooking.

Well thats cool, It gives us an idea of what seasonings to use. That is my one biggest issue with cooking, Flavor and spices! Worth giving it a shot and trying out some of those spices on it . Should it be boiled first or just fried??
