Finally the day is close when I am eligible to apply for citizenship. I am also getting married new years eve out side of US.

1. Should I go ahead and apply, once married update the application during the interview ? Or since the wedding date is so close (3 weeks), wait to get married, and then apply so that I won't have to change the status.

I want this to go thru fast, I am planning to apply for K-3 once a citizen. I did not opt for K-1 since I was so close to my citizenship.

2. I have 3 months to go till anniversary, at my local office I have heard of cases that have processed within 2 months, in such a case, do they let you take oath before the 5 year anniversary ?

Any suggestions advise would be much appreciated !

USCIS is a stickler on dates, not even a microsecond early from that 3rd or 5th anniversary so don't count on that. The big question for you is if you are better off to apply for a K1 as an LPR or a USC, normally spouses and their minor children if any receive number one priority, can tell you if petitioning for anyone else, the difference can be years. In my over five years of dealing with the USCIS, you really can't trust their processing dates. But there is sections on this board for petitioning either as a LPR or a USC. Would go there and talk to others in the same boat as you are in to see what their experiences are.

He can't do K1 as an LPR, only citizens can do that. He'll be better off with CR-1 over K-3 anyhow.

Thank you Both. I will def do CR1 once I am a citizen.

The question I was trying to ask was that I will be getting married exactly 3 weeks after I will send off my N400 application. In which I will indicate that I am single, since I am not technically married yet. But the time I get my interview, I will be.

So, should I wait to get married and then send off the n400.

OR is updating my martial status at time of interview ok ? Does it cause any delays or problems ?

From our experience, you answer all the question accurately at the time you signed the application. At the interview, the IO will go over the N-400 to see what changed since you sent in the application, martial status, (bad if applying for the three year privilage and your spouse dies or you get divorced), trips you have taken, and even if you had overthrown the government since you signed the application. You have taken an oath to answer all the questions honestly at the interview. In your case, with the five year, getting married should not affect you, but if you did overthrow the government, would have negative implications.
