SSN Pending

Hello everyone!

With the K-1 visa, I arrived at LAX on October 27. My then fiance (now husband), accompanied me to a SS office on November 10 to apply for a social security number. I presented my passport and the I-94. However, they handed me in their office during my visit a letter stating:

"This is to acknowledge that you applied for a Social Security number on November 10, 2009.

Before we can issue you a Social Security card, we must verify the document(s) you gave us to show your citizenship or alien status with the Federal, State, or local office in the United States that issued the document(s). This may take up to four weeks.

If that office verifies the authenticity of your documents(s) we will mail you a Social Security number card. If that office does not verify your document(s), you are not eligible for a Social Security number card and we will inform you of this in writing."

Today, December 8, is exactly four weeks since we first went to the SS office and there has been no letter at all. Since their number merely kept ringing yesterday when I made calls, my husband and I dropped by the SS office again this morning only to be told that the Immigration Office hasn't said yes or no to the verification that the SS requested on November 10. The woman who entertained me said that since the Immigration didn't respond to their electronic inquiry about the validity of my documents, they would just send the Immigration a snail mail so what I could do is wait again for an indefinite period.

My husband and I are planning to start the AOS process with my SSN but I wonder when the Immigration will nod yes and validate my documents for me to get an SSN.

Is there anything my husband and I can do to speed things up that the Immigration will send its go to the SS?

FAE

We r on the same boat. Been trying to apply for ssn since July.I already received my GC with the correct name but in the database, I have wrong info. Somebody in Csc type my maiden last name as my middle name AND last name instead of my married last name. Ssn went through and told me to wait until the 22nd if things will be cleared. Otherwise, we have to file the i90 form which will make things longer again.... Frustrating isn't it?

I don't think there is a faster way... If there is... Please let us know...

Hi Fae, I received my sscard yesterday, december 14, ten days after I was given the same paper stating the same certification. It is in my maiden name though so i would need to go back and ask them to change it with my married name. We snet our I-485 package through fedex last week without my SSN.

Hope your case will be fixed smoothly soon....

Hi,

My husband received his SSN this week after applying for it about a week and a half ago. We had waited about almost a month since his arrival thinking that the option that we chose on the DS-230 would get him one, but he never got it. It didn't take too long to receive it, once we applied, but I figured it was easier waiting until his greencard came. I wish you the best of luck and hope it comes sooner.
