I'm glad that you've gotten yourself out of a potentially horrendous situation; as others have said, there have been cases of women (and men) who've just gone along with it because they're not sure what to believe, or because they're so enraptured by their partner. What you've undergone has surely made you stronger, and it has also enabled you to be able to recognize the warning signs in the future. Things will get better for you. As me_4_musa said, time heals all, as oversaid that might be. Something good always comes out of the bad, as obscure that thing may be at the time.

I just spoke with my Moroccan citizen friend (been in NYC for 30 years)

and in about 30 seconds after outlining your problem for her she said it

had to be a scam and likely there was no pregnant woman.

She said that visa scams are widespread and far flung and run through the

spectrum of society in terms of income level. In short, it's kind of like a

cottage industry where there are brokers who ask for 10K US fees just

for information leading to a possible receptive scam victim.

She said the reason you were given such a nice welcome by his relatives

was that they all had the expectation to get US passports.

She cut to the chase and said he would divorce the US woman and then

after getting citizenship attempt to bring his entire family because in fact

the pregnant woman was probably pregnant only in his imagination.

The last thing she said was unexpected. Her brother who was divorced twice

from American women (and has his green card) got hooked up with a Moroccan

woman online through a "friend of a friend." This woman, although "recommended

by family" promptly proceeded to tell a combination of lies and attempted to

scam him for money.

As scam victims, native born USC's are not unique it would seem.

My heart goes out to you Diane, but your heart will be happier in the long run.
