Hi

I got married in Afghanistan. Regarding official documents, such as Identification Papers and such, Afghanistan does not use any last names. As a result, my marriage certificate does not have my last name. My wife wants my last name to be included in her name. The problem is that in the I-130 form, under C (Information about your relative) it asks for my wife's family name. Since she is now married to me, can I write a last name for her even thought there is no documentation of a last name in the marriage certificate. Please remember, there is no such thing as last names in Afghanistan.

No responses yet. Let me clarify this as it may be confusing.

The marriage certicicate and Tazkera (which is equavalent to citizenship) does not contain the last name of myself and my wife. Last names are not used in Afghanistan, usually people are identified by first name followed by the father or mother name. for example "Sarah daugther of Jacob". or "Sarah daugher of Mary". Now my question is in form i-130 should I leave the the last name of my wife blank or should i just write the same last name i have.
