Thought I'd share my new toy with the RUB crew: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruger_SR9 . (mine has the black metal though, not the chrome) Just in time for my conceal-carry permit too, woot! The wife isn't real happy right now, because I'm selling the Sig, but I think she's gonna really like shootin' this thing.

And in keeping with RUB forum requirements, I had apple pie for dessert. :D

Ladies and Gentlemen..... HE'S BACK!

Good to see you again, mox. And way to come back with authoritah! Now on to the good business - are you allowed to carry more than 10 rounds in that thing? Also, how much are you looking to sell your Sig for? I know you got a sweet deal on it when you bought it... wanna pass on the savings?

And since we're posting gun porn - http://www.snipercountrypx.com/showproduct...?productid=2798

Hehe, thanks Slim! :)

Sadly, the Sig is spoken for. I bought it from a friend who was jobless at the time and needed fast cash. I'm selling it back to him for the same price I paid for it. :)

As I understand it, I'm allowed 20 rounds. And since it only holds 17, I'm cool. :)

So hey, nice hawg! You packing one of those on your ankle these days? :D

@estadia: the grip fits small hands really well. It's not as wide as the Sig, which was the only complaint my wife had about the Sig. If you have big hands, however, you might find your pinky sliding off the end. My cousin has really big hands, and he likes the gun but it's not comfortable in his hands. There might be an aftermarket extend clip that could fix it though.

@justashooter: The sig is a sweet little shooter, and I'm definitely gonna miss it. But for a concealed carry pistol, it's just a little too bulky. The good news is that it's still going to be made available for me to shoot any time I want. And who knows, I may even buy it back again someday. My friend was talking about maybe getting something with a bigger caliber later in the year.

The Ruger is semi. You mentioned you have "child like" hands in the other post, so even though this is a pretty slim pistol, it may not fit your hands either, because it's otherwise a standard sized grip and may not fit your palm. If you have really small hands I'm not sure what your best option is, other than Slim's hawg. :)

If you're looking for something to just target shoot, you might find a .22 pistol to fit your hands. Also, at the gun show I was at last week, some of the dealers had some pretty small pistolas that were pretty darn cute. :P Recommend hitting your local show and seeing what they have.

mostly im looking for something with power 22 is ok ......but found out the hard way that when ur women out hunting and u have an elk down its not always easy to get to ur rifle when ur field dressing ur kill and some drunk men come up and think they can take it from u........it was a little mmm uncomfortable for a while they finally left but i think that if i would have had something that spoke business it could have ended a lot sooner than it did.......also i have concealed weapons permit ......i know a 22 is deadly but i want something more powerful the 357 is good but is not semi auto.

Ahhh. For self-defense, you don't want a .22. Yeah, it'll often take a human down, but sometimes it won't (especially somebody carrying a lot of body fat and/or wearing heavy clothing). I am 100% of the mind that if you're going to have a weapon for deterrence value, you need to be able to back that threat up. 99/100 dirtbags wouldn't mess with you if they saw you packing a .22 pistol, but there's that 1% who would. You want to leave no doubt in their mind that they will die if you're forced to shoot.

When I was a kid, my dad and I went hunting and encountered a very similar situation to your own, estadia. He'd bagged an elk, and while we were dressing it out, some bikers (about 4-5 of them) pulled up near our camp and started setting up camp next to us. They hadn't been there 10 minutes when one of them, obviously drunk, started talking about how fine that elk was and maybe he was of a mind to just take it off our hands. My dad strapped on a holster, pulled his .38 Special out of the glove box of our Scout, and offered that they might just want to camp elsewhere. Which they did. :D Now they might have left anyway if he'd have pulled out a .22, but there's something about a larger caliber handgun that really emphasizes the point. :)

My advice would be to go to a gun show, find a few with some caliber that fit comfortably in your hand, and then start doing some research and narrowing it down.

A timeless tradition... good for you guys. And let that be a lesson for everyone else. There's one thing you can always trade for what you need. Well, one thing the ladies have and then guns too, anyway.

As I understand it, I'm allowed 20 rounds. And since it only holds 17, I'm cool. :)

Is that 20 rounds in the gun or 20 rounds on your person? Also, is that state-wide or is that local?

Try one of these -

Those are really small .380s and will get the job done just fine. Taurus makes small autos too, but they're slightly larger than the above. To be honest though, I'd much rather pack a .357 mag in a revolver than any small caliber auto. I'm always getting into it with the guys who want to have "more firepower" when carrying concealed. The way I look at it, if I have to ever use my carry piece, it better put a stop to whatever caused me to pull it out. If I need to reload in order to do more stopping, I probably should've found a better way to deal with that threat - like running! Simply put, a couple rounds from a .380 or a .357 is going to stop a bad guy or two. When folks start talking about carrying 57 rounds of .40 (or more!) just in case they have to engage multiple threats and all that hogwash, that's when I remind them why God invented shotguns and rifles.

You carry a pistol to get yourself out of trouble. If you're expecting trouble - bring your rifle!

All that being said, carry the biggest, meanest gun you can conceal and shoot well enough to stop a bad guy. Oh, and get night sights!

If you have really small hands I'm not sure what your best option is, other than Slim's hawg. :)

You're the best wingman ever, bro! Of course I like to see small hands on my hawg. It makes it look so big!

:ot2: The hawg is too big for small hands. It's pretty small, but it's thick. (I know, I know...) It's a double stack so it doesn't fit well in small hands. Plus, 1911s are a bit much for most women (especially those with small hands.) They can handle it if needed, but for everyday use, it's just too big. When my wife first started handling my hawg (I know, I know...) it was too much for her and she couldn't even work the slide. I got her all excited (I'm almost done) and she racked it back no problem. I know she could operate it if she had to, but there's no way she'd be comfortable with something that robust if she ever really needed it.

Your concealed carry gun should be an extension of your hand/arm... a part of you. It should just "fit." If it doesn't, then it's not right. You'll know when you find the right one because you'll say, "Aaaah." It'll just work.

Once again, carry the biggest, meanest gun you can (in terms of caliber.) Six shots should be more than enough to get you out of a situation. Always remember, a carry gun is not to "go after" the bad guys, it's to "get you out."

If you can handle the .357, I'd stick with it. If you want an auto, .380 is probably about as big as you can go. You may be able to go with a subcompact 9mm or even a .40, but those are pretty good size compared to a little revolver. If you're going to go up in size though, might as well get a .45! That new Taurus isn't too big and there's always the Glock. I've spent a lot of time with a lot of people who carry, and every single one of them trades up to a .45 eventually. Sure, there are instances where smaller calibers are going to be better, but, if you're really going to have to need a handgun, you can't go wrong with a .45.

OK, off my .45 soapbox and back to reality. Get what fits you and what works well for what you'll use it for. It's far more important to have a good fit and feel and be comfortable with using it than to have a gun that everyone else says works well.

there's something about a larger caliber handgun that really emphasizes the point. :)

When you can literally see the bullet at the end of the barrel... it's pretty scary!

For self defense any caliber beginning with a 4 or higher is best.
