Well my wife called today to make her appoinment for the medical exam. They lady said they have to give her a thorax xray regardless if she is pregnant or not. It does not matter if she brings a note from her doctor. apparently they will cover the baby when they take the x-ray of her thorax or something. This doctor is the one listed for bolivia no the gov page, but are they supposed to do this if she is pregnant? anyone gone through this? should we be letting them take an xray?

Taken from 'Safety in Medical Imaging' at radiologyinfo.org:

"X-ray studies of the head, arms, legs and chest do not usually expose the baby directly to x-rays and typically the technologist who takes the x-rays will implement special precautions to ensure that the baby of a pregnant patient is not directly exposed. "

Taken from the American Pregnancy Association at americanpregnancy.org:

"According to the American College of Radiology, no single diagnostic x-ray has a radiation dose significant enough to cause adverse effects in a developing embryo or fetus. Some common diagnostic procedures include dental, chest, CT scan (head/chest), and abdominal view. "

There will be no harm done to the baby because they do cover the abdomen when they take a chest x-ray, and the baby is already at a stage where no harm will be done by being x-rayed, because it is almost ready to be born. Rather have the x-ray done so that the process can continue. the sooner the better.
