Hi,

I had my interview on Friday, I was given a Forn N-652. The IO checked the box "Congratulations! Your application has been recommended for approval.". Since the final approval is not Granted yet, should I expect CRIS status to change soon?.

I have similar question. I did my interview on Dec 2nd. I too got N-652 with test passed (But decision can not be made due to 5 years anniversary was 2 weeks after the interview date).

I have not yet heard anything yet about the approval/oath.

How long should it take, or in other words how long should I wait (Let's discount the 2 weeks of holiday period).

Should I be contacting (where?) after a week or so, say mid Jan?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no :) . I was approved for citizenship mid August and had my oath ceremony August 26th. My online status (CRIS) still reads that they have received my application. No other information was ever updated on the online status:-).

Wait 30 days after you are eligible (that 2 week waiting period then) and if you haven't heard anything by then, contact them to see if they have you scheduled for an oath ceremony yet. Good luck.

Only the service centers are on the net, not the field offices and from our experience, the field offices have all the power in the world to grant you USC. We learned the hard way, some supervisor at your field office does the final approval, but wife's IO told my wife, her application is sent off to some god unknown place. And each field office seems to have their own made up policies on the oath ceremony, many offer the oath the same day. Other, like our St. Paul office that is actually located in Bloomington, MN, the people in Bloomington don't like that had to wait up to a year until they got enough to make an overcrowded mess out of it. Would be held in the Viking Stadium, was told not to wear a Packers Jacket. My connections with Feingold on the USCIS budget committee changed that for us Wisconsinites. Was surprised that people had to drive way over from Fond du Lac, only 80 miles from Milwaukee, think they go by area code for that special Wisconsin only oath ceremony. Just 39 of us.

Your Form N-652 tells you to contact your IO if you have any questions, wish I was with my wife, her IO used some strange alien language to write her name, no way in hell could I make that out, and certainly no way to contact her as time went way past the time my wife should have received her oath letter. But a quick call to Feingold rectified that in a big hurry.

I have no idea why each field office can make their own rules regarding the oath ceremony, almost worth the effort to move to an area where they have the oath the same day as your interview. If you ever get your certificate, make sure you read it and get any corrections made right there and then. Or it may cost you another year and 400 bucks.

Hi Everyone,

Don't rely on any online updates, as they are inaccurate anyways!

For example, my online status (the last time I checked in December) still says "scheduled for interview" even though I've been a US Citizen for more than a month (since November 2009) already!...

Sorry to hear about your situations about not getting the oath date, despite passing the interview.

Could it also be that your particular local office is busy, and are overall scheduling oaths later than usual, despite anyone's circumstances?

Unfortunately, there isn't much else to do now, other than to wait it out.

You can also try going to an infopass appointment, which could be more of help to you there too to further inquire about your case from the USCIS.

As well, if it takes too much longer (maybe more than a few weeks), then you can also try contacting other politicians (congressman, ombudsman, etc.).

Hope the wait isn't too much longer for you. You're almost there at the end of you journey. Good luck for you getting your oath soon too.

Ant

P.S. I never did get that oath letter (I got a phone call instead, as mine was a private oath ceremony)...so I have no clue as to how long it takes, nor how one completely filled out beforehand looks like really...(I got my "letter" 5 mins before the private ceremony, and had to fill the details out myself..)...lol....

But yeah, I hope you all don't have to wait too long either.....

Called the customer service number today and the canned response was "You have to wait 90 days and if you do not receive anything, call back".

I am more frustrated as someone I know with the same case as mine (early interview than 5 year residency), got called immediately after their 5 year residency requirement was met and are having US passport already.

Darn. I am kicking myself for sending in the application early. I would have just waited for 10-15 days...

My wife had her naturalization interview December 11th. 2009. The IO gave her form N652 and congratulated her for passing her interview. We have heard nothing so far. At the Dallas office they have a oath ceremony just about everyday around 1pm. We called the 800 number and were informed that we probably have to wait 90-120 days. If we do not hear by then we should take up a INFOPASS appointment. This wait is driving us nuts.

I know that it's not going to change much, but I sent a letter with a copy of N-652 to the CIS Officer to check the status. I only hope it was trashed after at least reading once (than just trashing it).

Hi calOC,

I'm in the same boat. I had my interview on Jan 12. When they told me that it could be up to 120 until they'd schedule me for the oath I didn't really believe it- considering that Manchester NH is such a small office. However, it looks like they were not kidding :). Of course, my regular passport is expired- so that I really pray I won't have to leave the country any time soon...

Good luck,

Rebecca
