Hey VJ computing wizards, help us out here.

We bought a brande new Windows 7 PC a month ago. The redhead uses it to load audiobooks like it's going out of style, and he uses WMP. Now, the PC starting going slooooooooooooooooooooow so I put my tech support hat on and tried to fix it.

Turns out Windows Media Player has this "Media sharing Service" that eats up as much as 94% of our memory. No, not kidding. The Windows help thingy told me to disable the service and it would be all nice and whatnot. Well, stupid thing tells me it cannot do that. Disable the Service.

We do use WMP a lot, as it is compatible with both our Sansa Fuze players. Any ideas????? Do tell. kthxbai :hehe:

Can you re-download it, then uninstall the current version and reinstall without enabling the service?

I don't know :crying:

I suppose we could do that, as long as we don't loose the entire effing library :crying:

Move those files to a second HD or should have partitioned your first one. If history repeats itself, will have to wait for SP1, 2, 3.... to work out the bugs.

I found this on another site..

In the "Network and Sharing Center" (Yeh I missed that part) - task tray application - you need go to "choose homegroup and sharing options". From here select "Change advanced sharing settings", for each of the profile rollouts select "choose media streaming options..." and then "block all". This should turn off sharing completely. Why at-least a link wasn't included in the media player's sharing drop-down is confusing. Now I'm off to reset my network and let these changes set in. Onto clearing these duplicate libraries.

I don't know if your problem was fixed or not, but you could always try WinAMP instead of Windows Media Player. I like WinAMP a lot more. It's very versatile and user-friendly, not to mention it's far more customizable than WMP. Give it a try. If you don't like it, just uninstall it. ;)

Hmmm... A Sansa. What version? I briefly had one of the e260s back in the day that supposedly only allowed WMP... but I didn't get the chance to try anything else on it as the audio jack sucked on 3 consecutive models. End result? Gave up on MP3s for a while. I have to wait for people to start nagging me more in lab to start using one again.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Mierda. I don't know

A new one. Sansa Fuze something :P

He uses it mostly for audiobooks, and exchanges the little chips with music.
