Here's a question concerning health insurance for my fiancee. I'm in the military and she will eventually be under my insurance. But that cannot happen until we are officially married.

We'll be getting married within 2 weeks of her arrival. I'm not sure if we'll get the marriage certificate right away or have to wait for it in the mail. So it could be a month before she actually gets onto my insurance.

She wants insurance during that time. And it looks like regular travel insurance just won't work because she intends to immigrate to the US.

I've searched around VJ and a few have suggested getting insurance through www.usnetcare.com. Has anyone out there gone through them and are they any good? She doesn't have any wrong with her as far as we know... THis is just a "just in case" thing.

Never used them, and not sure if this applies or not but nobody else has responded to you. :) When my husband came over, we needed to add him to my insurance as well. He actually had a medical condition and really needs to have insurance in a timely manner. When I contacted my HR department, they allowed me to add him as of the date of our wedding. So, we didn't have an official medical card for him but he was covered as of the date we got married. I was not required to submit any marriage license or anything. They only required me to send them his social security number later on when we received it.

Have you contacted your benefits administrator? You may be able to expedite the process.

The "insurance" is through the military. They won't take you in until you are actually married.

You may want to consider checking in with your benefits administrator about when exactly her coverage will begin. With a lot of plans, coverage begins the day you are married. Even if it takes a month for you to get insurance cards, etc. confirming that she's covered, she may technically already be covered in case of an emergency or something unexpected. Hopefully that is the case with your insurance.

My husband has been covered by this new immigrant coverage since he arrived:

https://www.sevencorners.com/insuranceplans...migrantmedical/

I heard about through a couple posts on this forum. It seems good and it is very flexible as far as dates go and seems reasonably priced. Thankfully, we haven't had to make a claim so I can't provide any information on that.
