Contact the Embassy the MBE must be resealed. Turn up in the US with it open and you run the very high risk of being refused entry.

I just want to repeat the answer you already got--you must get the envelope resealed. They need to check the documents over and make sure nothing's been removed or added, so try to get this underway asap. It's a really big deal. Sorry that happened.

Thank you for your quick responses! My fiance called the extortion line right away and spoke to someone who was surprisingly understanding of the whole situation. They told him to send the whole envelope back to the embassy via their courier (DX) and they would reseal it for him and send it back. They also said it should be done in plenty of time for the flight he has arranged, so PHEW!

I'm just wondering why they would put his passport with visa in the same envelope he's not supposed to open. This isn't standard procedure, right?

Yeah that sounds like their screw up. I'm not sure if I've heard of that happening before. Odd. But sounds like you've got it under control. good.gif

Glad they were able to sort it for you, harsh having to use the extortion line though :(

It's great seeing all the people getting approved, makes me happier for next weeks interview :}

What's the earliest you can get there? will they let you in regardless of appointment time?

I saw that when I was at the embassy - it seems to be an N number thing only.

Still waiting for passport with visa to arrive - I know it's only been 4 working days but I'm impatient! Also stressed that something may happen to delay it!

Don't stress. Mine took 2 weeks to arrive and worst I've read on VJ was 5 weeks. Every day check that courier site and one day very soon it will say "due for delivery the next day". It is a huge relief when you actually have it in your hand.

Thanks Doghandler - it currently won't even register that the tracking number exists in their system which is very frustrating :)

Just checking in to see if any of my fellow 2nd Juners had received their visas yet, had a go at the courier tracking and saw to my surprise they're marked for delivery today!

The code I entered is the US date of interview (06022010) and my i number.

Off to update the actual interview thread now :)

Good luck to all imminent interviewees!

VJ K-2 AOS Guide

Hi all - just a quick update - I entered the US on Monday 7th, my POE was Atlanta airport. Everything was fine with the journey except the 'do not open' envelope was so big that I could not fit it in my hand luggage so i carried it in my hand for the entire journey and had it on my lap for the entire flight as I was so paranoid about leaving it loose in the over head locker!

Anyway when I got to Atlanta the passport control officer looked at my visa (I joined the US citizens and residents line) and asked for my envelope and had someone escort me to the immigration room. I had a really long wait here but only because there were so many others in front of me! I waited about 1 and a half hours and then an immigration officer called me forward, took my fingerprints and signature and asked me a couple of questions. Then I sat back down for about another 15 minutes and then she called me back and explained my visa had been stamped and was good as proof of permanent residence for a year and that my greencard would take 3 - 6 months and she double checked the mailing address with me. Then I was free to go!

A very helpful baggage person had pulled my suitcases to one side as it had taken me so long to get to the carousel and then I cleared customs and finally found hubby! My flight got in about 7pm and I left the airport about 9.30 pm. Like i said before the wait was not because of any immigration problems i had but just because the office was so busy and thier were only 2 officers working.

Hope that is of some help

Good luck all!

Stacey

That is a help, thank you Stacey.

It at least lets me know what to tell people picking me up from the airport, maybe a wait. Also as i need a connecting flight, i think i might try and get it outside the US in order to have my POE at my destination (i can see me missing a connecting flight otherwise)

Interesting you used the US line, i'll have to remember that :)

Yes I was not sure what line to join but The US one was for citizens and residents and I figured I would be a resident in just a few minutes so that was the best line to join! Normally the US line is much shorter but typically it was longer this time!

Good luck to you!

I intend just to join whichever line is shorter!
