Timeline
Just received a phonecall from a friendly woman at the embassy (I nearly died when my dad told me who was on the phone) who told me that due to staff illness, my interview's been postponed to the 16th. Anyone else? I know it's just one more week but we're both gutted :(

That's awful! Feel for you. Talk about having your nerves shredded. So, what if you don't live in London and had booked non refundable flights/train tickets, hotels?

Also, may I ask anyone on this thread, how do you find out when the embassy has received your case from NVC - do you call DOS? And, I what is the likely wait for packet 3? And, thirdly, how do you find out when they have logged receipt of packet 3 when you send it back to them?

muchos gracias for anyone's time. I've read so much on VJ, have now got confused over how to track it all. Whatever this process may or may not be, it certainly could never be called "user friendly"!

I see on some of people's status reports that some have had their interviews at the US Embassy in London with "medical pending." On our Packet 4, there's the following paragraph:

PLEASE NOTE: You must undergo the medical examination or make a booking prior to the interview. If you fail to do so, the interview will be canceled and you will be required to reschedule for a later day.

So, as long as your medical is scheduled before the interview, it's not a problem that they don't have the medical results yet?

This used to be the case, but they changed the rules a couple of months ago and you are now required to undergo your medical at least one week before your interview. This is especially irritating for anyone who has to travel to London from NI, Scotland etc. because it requires 2 trips.

The pending medical cases now are usually where the PP requires more evidence of something, like an explanation of your depression history or confirmation that a pre-existing condition is managed. It could also be that they have determined that you need further testing (if there is a history of alcohol/ drug abuse for example) or if you require treatment/ completion of treatment before they can certify you as medically fit for immigration.

If at all possible, avoid them not having the results by preparing for the medical if you know there are any matters that could become issues. For example, I'm going to get a letter from my GP explaining the episodes of acute depression I have experienced and that I am not and never have been considered a risk to myself or others. Waiting on medical results often delays the visa issuance for a longer period of time than you'd have to wait otherwise.

On the note of medicals, it truly baffles me that there is only one PP for the whole of the UK. Completely insane to ask people to travel from NI, Scotland, Wales and Jersey (?) for something that other large countries, like Germany and Canada, offer you several dispersed options.

I wonder how and why this decision was reached, and whether there's anything that can be done to change it?

You used the word required here... is that an actual policy? That would be different from the Packet 4 wording. Are you saying that it now takes a week for the medical to transfer to the embassy, so you could have to wait a few more days if your medical is less than a week before?

Thanks Miss Jess. Loving your secret sources.

Then the longest wait for all of us for interview date in the current state of UK Embassy backlog now further curtailed by staff sickness! (wonder what they've all gone down with? hoping it's not work related stress!). Another week starts tomorrow. A new week of waiting related stress for us to suck up and enjoy! Till we get the interview date, can't plan or commit to anything, the things which have nothing to do with our big move. Am loving every minute of this journey, I sure am! x
