Approved!!! Still in shock. What a day! I'll post up more details later, though I'll say (in an effort to ease the minds of those worried about their own interviews) the embassy staff were all lovely. It wasn't nearly as scary as I'd feared it might be. Actually, it was all very anti-climactic (as many have said before).

Heya all!

Finally back in the land of the living, having spent the hols with the fella in AZ. Sounds like we were lucky to miss the chaos of snowed shut airports last week!

My news is that we're definitely beginning the process as soon as possible, after he formally popped the question last Friday. It was all very dramatic, which is very unlike us, but I'll be blogging it all and will link it for anyone interested! lol..

It's going to be January 28th at the earliest, depending on whether I need to wait for the court to post my decree absolute or if they just get the application and will stamp the absolute and hand it over the counter... so in the meantime I'm going to put together a 'to-do' checklist with a budget planner and timeframes with it so I don't sit here distracting myself with stuff that I really don't need to be thinking about right now (like wedding plans but they're FUN!)

Righto - off to catch up on everyone's news and progress! Here's to a grand 2010 for us all :)

Thank you. I'll write up something just as soon as I've pulled myself together well enough to type something half decent and useful. I didn't get any sleep at all last night, so at this point I've been up for well over 30 hours!! I'm still feeling ridiculously hyper and wide awake though. :D

I'm not sure how useful my review will be for the majority of VJers here. Because of my disability, I think there were some parts that were a bit different --- not that we got any special treatment when it came to visa approval, the interviewer was very thorough about going through all of our stuff before he told me were approved.

Still, I did want to write up something that might be useful to other disabled VJers. I know wheelchair users here are probably a minority, but I know that the small amount of information about the embassy and disability facilities was pretty slim, and I always appreciated every small bit of information I was given.

They asked me the following questions:

How long have you been engaged?

(This one caught me off guard-I couldn't recall the actual amount of time we'd been engaged, and didn't want to make a guess and be massively out. So I just explained that we'd been engaged since I went over to visit him in the U.S. in September 2008.)

Where does he live

(I was asked two variations of this question-the first, where in the US is he, and the other, where exactly is he staying? I think the second was asked to confirm the information on the forms-that he's living with his mum, and I'll be staying there too when I go over.)

How long have you known him?

When are you planning on going to the U.S.

(We'd put Feb 2010 on our forms, but I elaborated a little and explained that because visa approval was not guaranteed, we had set no plans other than that I intended to move over there between Feb and June. He seemed to approve of this answer, said something like "that's good, you will have lots of time then.")

I can't think of any more right now.

Yayyyy! I never thought I'd see the day when my name appeared on that list. :D

And Congrats Frosty!!!! When you planning on POEing?

My fiance and I haven't actually planned anything yet: didn't dare until we got the visa approval. It'll probably be sometime between Feb and June (yes, that's a bit vague, I know) but until we start doing some serious planning, it's hard to predict exactly when.
