Well, it seems I was completely wrong on that. I saw another thread where someone said they had their interview booked ad hadn't done the medical yet, so I phoned, hoping desperately to get good news. And hurrah!!! They have his interview set for September 28th at 9am! Woohoo!!!

I had called earlier today but they were so busy that I had one of those guilt attacks for bothering people over something stupid, so I hung up. Ah well--Yay Marlea!

Ha! Yeah, I've had some of those guilt attacks to, which is why I hadn't called yesterday, but after seeing someone else get their interview, the panic set in and I had to call. And I'm glad I did, only 5 weeks to go!

Here's my review of how my K1 interview went:

Wary of the thought of being late for my interview with the massive queues that are said to form outside the US Embassy in London, I showed up 2 hours early just to be sure (appointment was 10.00). In the end this was a good idea as it took 70 minutes to get through the queue, initial letter and passport check and then the security check at the gate. This all went pretty smoothly though the staff outside were a bit abrupt - guess you would be too if you had to deal with lots of mildly confused and apprehensive people all day every day.

In through the VISA entrance and a quick check in at the reception desk where I got my ticket number to watch for on the screens. Into the waiting area where I was 45 minutes early but still kept my eyes glued to the screen just in case. As it was, I was called at 10.10 and went to the window of a lady who was a little difficult to understand (it's hard to hear them through those screens) but I gave her all the documents she required - quick bit of info for those going down. TAKE COPIES OF ALL THE PACKET 3 DOCUMENTS YOU SEND DOWN TO GET YOUR INTERVIEW DATE. Mine had somehow gone missing, she even tried to say "You must not have sent them" which couldn't be true or else how did I get an interview date in the first place?? Thankfully I had printed out all the forms in triplicate when I did them originally so she accepted the copies I had with me. When she was satisfied she had all the required docs I was told to sit down again until I was called for Part 2 - the interview. This could take "several hours" to happen, apparently so I was told to be patient.

10 minutes later (lol) my number was called again and I went to another window. An older American gentleman asked me to confirm my fingerprints then flicked through all the documents, certificates, financial info et al, occasionally asking me a question relevant to my fiancee and getting me to sign where necessary. Once he'd double checked a couple of the financial things he said "This is fine, just need you to complete this credit card slip for your VISA" so I'm standing there thinking "Really? That's it?" as I fill in the credit card info. He reminds me to check in with the courier desk and says "Thanks for being a straightforward case" and that's it! No checking of continuation of relationship, no nothing! I spent literally 10 minutes in front of people. That said I've never been married before, never changed my name, never had kids, have no criminal record etc so I guess they already knew everything about me in advance. Anyway, I fill in the courier form and go to the desk, pay by card again and I'm out the door by 10.50!!

So, other than the mild panic attack when the first lady claimed they didn't have my packet 3 forms (not sure how they could possibly have lost them) that was a very positive experience.

Just stopping by to say Julian had his medical last week. He said it was pretty humiliating -- the doctor told him to quit smoking or he would leave me a very young widow! But everything seemed to go OK, no questions about the amount he drinks. Still waiting for an interview date though!

Fiance's medical is done! I asked him if he passed, and he said he guessed so. I told him that he'd definitely know if he didn't. Yay!!!! Just the interview now, exactly a month away!

Hello All!

We filed April 20, 2010 through Vermont. We never received a packet 3, and called and they told us where to find what we needed to send in. We sent this all in on August 2, and still haven't heard about and interview date. My fiance called a couple of weeks ago and they said it was still in the processing time frame. I just want him here NOW!! We are praying the packet 4 will come soon.. It is hard coming on here and seeing others getting their interview dates.. but at least we know it should be soon!

I do find it interesting that I am not the only Brit who didn't get "packet 3"

Could this be in anyway related to the £1.20/minute helpline they make you call?

Anyhow, my forms arrived at the embassy on June 21, and I got my interview date (Aug 10) on July 12.

My interview went swimmingly. I arrived at the queue for the security hut at 0820, got through security at 0900 and took a seat in the lobby at 0912. I saw the first staffer at 1050, and then had the actual interview with a really friendly gentleman at 1130, then joined the queue for the courier at 1135, and left the building at 1150. It really wasn't that daunting, and the interview seemed to focus on my knowledge of the city where I will be living, rather than about my relationship with my beloved. He told me that he would approve my visa, and that I would get it back in three to five days.

Six days passed, so I called the £1.20 a minute helpline, who told me (after an eight minute wait at £1.20/minute) that they can't help me and I need to send an email, which I duly did. I got a standard response - processing times are a guide, cannot be guaranteed, etc.

On day eleven, I called again and demanded to speak to a manager. They refused. After six minutes of arguing I eventually conceded that I would have to send an email. The response to this email was a lot better - it obviously wasn't a standard response as it had spelling mistakes in it! This one said "as soon as possible," "final processing" and other warm and reassuring things. My visa turned up three business days later, dated the day after the email response. I think someone put it in the wrong pile!!

Anyway - train to the airport, flights, wedding and everything are booked now. I leave the city I've called home for ten years in just over a week, and I am very scared and have came out in big league acne - great for wedding photos!!

I'm really looking forward to it too though...

The people who answer the phones at the London embassy are usually less than average intelligence...

When our visa printing got past the 3 week mark or so, we called up to ask for the passcode in order to e-mail them about it. I was told that there was no such thing as one until I explained my situation and she gave me one.

Well at least you didn't file last year. We filed in June and his interview was January. Things have certainly picked up since then....

Just keep calling every day.
