SSN nightmare

Hallo eveyone, ssn is such an ordeal! Tried applying since July 21 until my I94 expired. so I had to wait for the EAD and went back to apply, they told me again I have to wait. then got my GC Then decided to call SSA (they advised me to call before going back and am getting tired of going back and forth at least 8 times already) and they told me I cannot apply yet coz USCIS needs to do some more verification... when I already have my permanent resident card?!! thathe heck is going on?

Please I need your advice on this matter. This is making me and my husband bonkers! What should we do next?

Maybe you need to talk to a supervisor at SSA and explain to them that you already have the green card and EAD. Or you could try to contact USCIS and find out what the delay is... Just my opinion. I wish you luck...

I entered on K1 visa. Got everything already but the ssn, and everything is based on ssn... This is frustrating...

Do i need to wait few more weeks after reciving my GC? go to the USCIS office? or apply? man...am getting frustrated!

If you have your GC in hand now, there is no reason they cannot issue the SS card. Ask them to do a manual verification if they still cannot verify it electronically. A supervisor may have to do that for you. There's a particular form they would have to fill out to do this. Edited to add - I believe that is form G-845.

Well if that is the case you march back to that SSA office or another and submit an application and start yelling for the office manager if they won't take it. The procedure is to accept the application and then verify your immigration status, Not verify your immigration and then accept the application.

Hi again! The other day, I called the SSA and asked if I can already apply for ssn since I have my gc already, the lady told me I cannot yet after she searhed my info on the system. Anyways, made some more calls after that to make sure the lady who I've spoken with earlier is really speaking the truth,haha! Sowee I don't believe all their ####### sometimes.they told me to call the uscis to check what is the hold up, so I made an infopass. My husband and I went to the uscis first to ask what is going on with my data, the lady in uscis took my gc and looked my data up on her system and found out that my name is listed as my very first name on my first names (have 2 long first names) and my maiden last name as my middle name AND last name. My initials on gc are C M P L. So on the uscis it's C P P, but on the next page, it's the correct CMPL showing.and the lady called the NBC and then asked what uscis office processed it and told her California and she told me that someone in Cali messed it up. She told me to file for i90 to make the nencessary corrections, my gc and ead have the correct spelling and everything, she said it's the info on the database showing your different names. She told me to try applying for the ssn yet as I might go through their system so my husband and I went, talked to the guy but didn't tell him the prob first,just gave him my application and gc. Then he tried to work on it and lter told mei can't apply yet that I haveto wait 30 days for thesystem to update blah blah and then we told him about the problem and he mentioned the save and of maybe someone there can fix the problem and he said we better wait 30 days before applying again. Goodness!!!

Went home and made phone calls to save and got in touch with a customer rep and told her my issue and after I told her all the CPP and CMPL she said that is what is shwoing on their computer and she told me go back to th SSA

coz the guy didn't do what he is supposed to do, he did not do the electronic verification. Etc so we went back again 45 Mins drive! Whew! Talked to another guy thank God, he handled my very first application, everify but didn't work well too before I got married. Anyways, in his system using my gc it shows my name as CL. And it flagged and he made an electronic verification and told me to wait for 1-2 weeks. He said he will give me a

call if it clears before the 22nd. so we got the printout that states my status needs to be verified. I am worried coz I didn't have my complete first names CM L but only showed the C L but has all the correct info, bday, address etc....should I contact the save system to check on it?to makesure the CL is also the CML they have? How long must I wait........? I didn't do the i90 yet I'm praying the Ill get the ssn this year and it'll be a very nice Christmas gift...

At least they finally accepted an application, so that's a positive step. How long it takes is going to depend on how long it takes SSA to verify your immigration status.

If they submitted a secondary electronic verification request, they should have a response within a week. If that verifies they can clear the application. If immigration responds that they need to see your Form I-551, the SSA office will send a photocopy of the front and back of the card along with Form G-845. Figure that taking a month for the SSA office to get a response back on that. If they don't get a response within a month, they have number they can call to get the verification over the phone.

So do you have a chance, yes. How long it will take, who knows.

Thanks so much iquit, guess I'll just have to wait. I don't wanna entertain the idea of sending i90...again thank you. I'll keep ya'll posted. Gonna call SSA before Wednesday again.

just be patient...usually when the ssa says there is a NEED for verification, it means a lot of things that may include security reasons, if you know what i mean...have read about similar stories here...but you'll eventually get your SSN, don't worry
