I read the Visa K1 Flowchart and I'm still a bit confused. We're done with the process of being apart she was granted her visa at the interview. So I take my fiancee to file for a SSN as soon as she gets here. We get the marriage certificate. Then we get her name changed. WE complete I-693 and AOS? Is that all right? In that order? Where does the I-693 Go? Where does the AOS go? We used the vermont service center at the beginning of this process is that where it goes? Thanks for the help. Just more stressed now than I was before with the deadline and all.

There is an AOS guide. Read and Follow it after the visa is in hand.

It doesn't seem like you bothered reading what I typed. I already stated I read those guides and I'm still confused and have some questions. If you aren't going to bother asking any of the questions I asked, (while I do appreciate the bump.) don't bother posting.

Yes, in fact I did read it. I bolded what guides you wrote that you had read. You stated you read the k-1 flowchart. You said nothing about reading the AOS Guide. The AOS guide is different. Your Questions are answered in it.

You asked "WE complete I-693 and AOS?"

Guide answers under the heading:

Assembling the I-485 Package: Checklist frequent questions frequent questions

Forms and Documents (follow these assembly instructions. All supporting documents must be in English or be translated as noted here.):

So it is a package-to be filed together.

3. Form I-485: Petition for Alien Relative (this is the 'main' AOS)

8. A certified copy of your marriage certificate. (If filing for your spouse)

11. I-693, Medical Examination of Aliens Seeking Adjustment of Status. If you are a K-1, K-2, K-3 or K-4 visa holder the I-693 instructions state that you are not required to have another medical examination as long as your Form I-485 is filed within one year of your overseas medical examination. Regardless of if you are exempt from a medical exam, you are still required to complete certain portions of the I-693 and have a Civil Surgeon certify the form (and seal it in an evelope). Specifically, you will complete Part 1 (Information about you) of the I-693 and provide both the form and your DS-3025 (if you have it, proving your vaccination history) and any proof of required vaccinations that were completed prior to entering the US. If you do not have a copy of your DS-3025 you will need to provide sufficient evidence of your vaccination history to the Civil Surgeon (talk to the civil surgeon's office to discuss what vaccination records they accept as proof). If you do not have proof of your vaccination history the Civil Surgeon may insist on re-administering all the required vaccinations prior to completing the I-693. Once the Civil Surgeon has has verified that all required vaccinations have been performed, they will complete form I-693 Part 2 (the vaccination section) and Part 5 (the Civil Surgeon's Certification). They will then seal the form in an envelope and return it to you.

You also asked: We used the vermont service center at the beginning of this process is that where it goes?

Also answered in the AOS guide:

Where to File Everything:

Applicants are required to mail applications to a national mailbox (Chicago) as stated on the form (not your local USCIS office).

In fact the VERY FIRST sentence in the AOS guide is:

Note: When filing for Adjustment of Status K1 and K3 Visa holders are now required to submit their paperwork to the National Address (Chicago Lockbox) instead of at their local CIS office. This procedure became effective for all applicants in April 2005.

I have tried to find the Chicago address. I must be blind or stupid, but I can't find it. What is the address that I send the I-485 to, and who do I address it to?

Look at the instructions to the I-485, not the I-485 itself. It is a separate PDF. Page 6.

After your fiance is granted their visa, she arrives and you marry within 90 days. Have her apply for the SSN after about 10 days in the U.S. It will be in her maiden name. That's what they'll give her. If you marry, but still have more than 15 days left before the I-94 (which will be stapled in the passport upon arrival in the U.S.), you can go back to the SSN office and have them change the name on the SS card. Bring the marriage certificate. Some offices will give you a load of ####### about doing this. I didn't bother getting it changed until I got my GC because you can't work anyway until you get the EAD or GC anyway, so it doesn't really matter what name is on the SS card. BTW, the SS card will say something to the effect that you can only work with DHS authorization. After you get your EAD card, then you can go back and get the name changed if you didn't already, and have a new card ordered that will have the "not authorized" to work taken off it as well.

Check with your state, however most states do NOT need a SSN to get married. A passport should suffice, for the marriage license. So, after you marry, put together your AOS package. If your fiance has a copy of her medical vaccination form from the medical in Canada, just include that. If not, you can either decide to forgo the I-693 and hope that the info they've received already will suffice, OR you can get the I-693 filled in by a local physician that is on the list. If you're doing that, the I-693 will be included with the AOS package. Make sure that you apply for the EAD, and AP along with the GC, so that they can work prior to getting the GC, or the AP so that they can travel back to Canada, before receiving the GC.

The whole applications go to the Chicago Lock Box address. Chicago then sends it out to where they decide your application will be processed.

You might note that you will also find information in the Canada Forum, in the pinned threads at the top of the forum, on applying and receiving EI if your fiance is a Canadian resident.

Don't worry, thinking ahead always stresses you out! I was there once.

Once you are married and received the certified copy of your marriage certificate, you can start compiling all of the information you need for AOS.

I693, since she has already finished her medical within 1 year the USCIS should have her medical examination and she does not need to perform her medical over again. Now there is the vaccinations proofs that she needs, so that does need to be submitted during the AOS process. All you need to do is to find a civil surgeon and then have him/her transcribe the list of vaccinations that she has already taken or .. compete any vaccinations that she will need. once that is completed the civil surgeon can sign their name and seal the envelop for you. Send it along with the AOS documents when submitting everything to the USCIS.

Don't worry! the process is quick once the initial package is sent.

Good luck!
