Hi,

How does it work when you travel from US to your country for vacation?

then when you are back to the US, what do you present to get back in?

Only the Permanent resident Card?

what other documents?

I'm a permanent resident

PS sorry guys I haven't updated my timeline for the longest time.

already had the conditions lifted, my card is the 10 year card and I'm eligible

for naturalization. but maybe I will do that in a few years.

thanks

PR card and Passport, if the name in the passport doesnt match the name on the PR card yet cus you didnt update it ( you probably already did tho ) bring your marriage license, but again thats only if the name on the card and passport dont match if you didnt update your passport yet.

Show your passport when you enter your country. Show your GC when you enter the U.S.. If your country has exit passport control (like Thailand) then you will need to show your passport again at that point, of course. When you depart for the U.S. you may be required to show your GC to the airline to prove you have the proper credentials to be admitted back into the U.S.

Ok

My brazilian passport expired..last year. It is in my maiden name...Since I left that country I never went back to that country.

So I think, I have to request a new renewed passport at he brazlian embassy in the USA.

it is so confusing...

At the USA airport ckeckout to come back in they will only ask to see your resident card?

- I just come back from a trip abroad and to my surprise, the entrance (at the JFK airport) for permanent residents is different from the citizens

(a year ago, residents and citizens had the same custom enterance, apart from the visitors - visa holders...).

Yes, you will need your passeport, unexpired especially if you will travel by air.

(I traveled to Canada and back last year, to Niagra Falls, walking from one side to another of the border and they didn't look at my passeport - the GC was enough.

It's safer to have all your documents unexpired.

I also had my maiden name on the passeport but wasn't any problem and nobody asked about my marriage certificate or other document to prove the change of name... but is good to have it with you, just in case.

Good luck!
