Okay Yardies, I gots a question of the day!!!

How have you handled "negative" family members and friends toward your Fiance(e) or Spouse? Not your everyday haters and negative Bobs  but people that you genuinely care about and that know you!! Sometimes, I think people just have these views about people from other countries, etc. And we've all heard the stories, had not so great experiences, or know a friend of a friend...

I remember some negative talk from my brother at first. I just use to say him, believe what you want and speculate on what you know nothing about. When he arrives here, you will get your answers. You will see for yourself.

Its not always that easy to do but if your peeps geniunely love you and respect you, once Den get's here they will respect him too.

You know what I do too but I haven’t did it in a while. With my soon to be X husband I once tried it with him when we first started dating and he thought I was silly so I never tried it again. In my next relationship I hope I find a man that likes to do it as well. I think there is nothing more romantic than taking your partners hand and just slow dancing in the middle of the floor to a jam. I mean being in each others arms without actually doing anything just builds the anticipation!

Gurl make that tape!!!

You know I am going to gon on head and hook that thing up...I just pray that Den doesn't have on that gold suit as we go out to the dance floor to slow drag. Once in a lifetime is enough with that there gold suit!:rofl:

Dens...

To tell you the truth there is no one I am close to that doesn't like Louis. When I was living in St Lucia my mother and aunt came down and met him. So, when I told my friends my mom liked him.. they didn't question much.

A couple caring people wanted to make sure he didnt just want a green card.. but that worry was squashed when he got here.

I would say the best thing to do is have a successful relationship. When he gets here and people see that it is for real.. you will prove them wrong. The negativity will fade....

I have to agree, once my family saw I was serious about this, they just welcomed Steve with open arms. My father has even started saying "I love you guys" I was like  wth? cause I see my dad more now since Steve has been here!!!

Well me personally I always tell folks unless you have walked the walk and talked the talk you’ll never understand. I mean think about it had we all not done it we might think we were crazy too. Most of us went on vacation and ended up finding a man we wanted to spend the rest of our lives with. That does sound a little crazy. I think folks tend to criticize the unknown. Like they have no idea about it so they talk about it and your right after hearing some of the horror stories I think they are just trying to protect us from getting hurt.

When I was in my relationship so many people thought I was crazy and others thought it was cute. I just stood my ground and told my loved ones this is my life and I have to live it as I see fit. Sad to say when it came to topics about him I didn’t talk to those folks as much instead I talked to Quana or someone else who could understand. I always asked myself if it didn’t work out would I enjoy the ride? Well I must admit my relationship didn’t work out but got darn I really enjoyed the ride!!!

Speaking of rides Spangles will be riding to the airport today Dam is due to arrive.

So far so good, everyone that has talked with Den loves him! One of my closest friends and her husband have met him and they absolutely love him! My family is eager to meet him at this point. The most negative things have come from folks I don't even consider close friends! So they don't matter anyways and a lot of it honestly is just folks unhappy and can't be happy for anyone else...poe thangs!

I just wondered what the experiences have been with some of you all on here. My dad is the hardest person to please because he feels like no guy is good enough... so I know once he meets Den...its going to be an event but I know my baby gon represent cause we been holding it down for a minute now and folks that didn't believe at first, definitely believe and know now!:dance::dance:

I believe that to be true. The group I travelled with to JA every year, some of them was so happy for me and some had speculations of what it was hitting for. I think deep down inside people want us to be happy, just not hurt. The funny thing to me is hurt is hurt whether it comes from JA or the US. I never looked at Steve like "I got me a Jamaican man" I just thought I found a caring, loving, family oriented man. That was enough for me. :)

:rofl: What are you trying to say, DaDa??

For me, it's not my mom (we're in diff states), but a couple of my friends. One says that whenever I have a man, I don't call her. I pointed out that even when I DON'T have a man, I don't call her, cause I don't call ANYONE. Another has had to come to grips with me not being able to just up & go anywhere anytime or her being able to pop over anytime. Now I have to discuss things with my other half.

LOL I knew someone was going to pick up on that!!! Nat you know you know exactly what I’m saying!!!

It is hard for friends when you have a mate. Especially when they are used to doing things with you and now your hubby is in tow or you cant roll out as much as you used to. As woman we have to balance. Time for our friends, hubbies, kids, family, work and ourselves. I think once Steven gets more comfortable and finds friends of his own to hang out with you and your friends will hang out a little more. Its just all so new right now.

You and that gold suit. The more I picture it the more I laugh. Well to avoid the gold suit you can always dance at the hotel or his yaad. LOL

You know your wedding colors will HAVE to have gold in it right?
