This thread opened Pandora's box. There are stereotypes about Filipinos and downright embarrassing and ignorant comments from fellow Filipinos that I strongly feel I must address. Sadly, I feel my people are being poorly represented. What do we have here? People who want to marry out because they want cute children? Men who think we're all wowed by houses and cars? No sir, no ma'am. Just as there are gold-digging whites, there are gold-digging Flips. Just as there are sensible, intelligent and successful white women, there are also sensible, intelligent Filipino women. Again, it's not about the race nor is it about the citizenship. I am appalled by the poster who pointed out that Filipinas marry USC's for economic reasons. Think again.

I understand your sentiment, but given that this is an immigration website where a large portion of Fil/Am couples met through some kind of dating service, all kinds of stereotypes helped in part bring many couples here together (dutiful Pinay wife, loyal, loving kano husband)...for better or worse. I'm not condoning it, but it exists here and you'll see it a lot if you stick around long enough.

That's exactly why I can't just sit here and keep my mouth shut. Given my case is part of the minority here, I still feel the need to point out that Pinays are just as diverse as the Americans. You just can't put a label on us and box us like that. How would you feel if we condescendingly imply that that all MEN who go through that dating service are downright desperate joes who can't find a suitable mate under normal circumstances because they are just not good enough? Wouldn't you feel the need to speak up and say that there are few who just want to try less than traditional options to meet people?

????

I can answer the initial question easily..., in our case at least. My wife married me because 1) God worked it that way, and 2) she loves me.

She never had any desire to marry an American. I am poor as poor can be...and unemployed at the moment. And she had a GREAT career ahead of her in the Philippines, with her sights set on being school superintendant for Quezon City. She was the youngest principal there, at the age of 34, and she had to give it all up to be with me, and a lower standard of living she once had. Am thankful I am not rich, because I know where her heart is truly at.

And I married HER because God worked it that way in my own heart, seeing as how I had a rule to never get involved with anyone overseas. She was the missing part of my life, and I thank God for her daily, literally, as we pray together each night.

Our baby is due July 28th.

We appreciate any prayers.

I agree and I have spoken out against all kinds of stereotypes. I hope you stick around here then. Your input will definitely be refreshing.

Ok I will weigh in here. I too married a Pinay by accident and purely for love. So, I commend you for your answer and I hope you have the love of your lifetime. I was not looking for a filapina, nor ever expected to marry someone like her. But here I am and I am very happy.

With regard to white women I have married, dated and worked with lots of white women in the USA and I have the utmost respect for them. I work daily with white women in my office who are brilliant and professional and very talented. These women are beautiful, smart, sexy and intelligent - and very successful.

However, there IS a difference when it comes to relationships. In general (and there ARE exceptions) white women in the USA have never experienced true hardship. They do not really understand the concept of community and relationships. They often do not appreciate discipline and sacrifice and are very materialistic. They are focused on careers and a new car - not on a husband and family. I am not even saying this is all bad - just reality. But they tend to be spoiled and driven by their careers. Relationships are a distant second for many. Consequently, it is hard for men who want a more traditional marriage and relationship to find a woman in the USA that meets their needs.

I will use you as example with my apologies. I initially thought your login name was a bit strange for a filipina. Now I see that you are not from the Philippines and it makes more sense to me. In fact, no filipina would use a name like that. They are too discrete, honorable and conservative. If that does not make sense to you then you really do not understand what a filipina is. What do you imagine that most people think when they read your login name? Immediately, I discounted as someone only interested in partying and selfish physical/material pleasures - someone who does not really understand relationships and the importance of family and relationships. That is absolutely typical for most women in the USA and is exactly why most of us appreciate the values, beauty (physical and otherwise) and unconditional love we found in the Philippines.

Thank you for your answer. What you have seen is exactly what I have noticed in American women. I am 57 and never married. Why have I never married? I have never married for mainly the exact reasons you have outlined. I think American men like and want a wife for a solid relationship. I think also here in America we are suffering from I want what I want and I want someone to give it to me, but I do not want to give anything in return.

Dale

Dale, the post is one of the best I have ever seen in this section.

But in America, American woman has been put up on a pedestal and worhipped. The Family Court and Divorce court is so lopsided toward woman.

I see it all the time, Even the fat and ugly woman get attention from American Men. If your fat or ugly in PI, then your gonna get the bottom of the barrel when it comes to a partner.

I have a few friends in USA that are married with kids and thier wives are big as house, Bitchy and very demanding. One in particular went to a lawyer to start divorce procedures and after finding out how much child support he would be paying each month he has decided to ride it out until the kids get 18 years old.

To me a Man is the King of the Household, he makes the decision for the family and the woman should support his decisions.......

I have a QUEEN, who likes to say "you're the boss". But few decisions are made here without being a decision that is happiest and best for HER. And all our choices are jointly decided. If we disagree, I usually go with what will make her happiest. In the end if we STILL disagree, she goes along with what I think best.

I thank God for my wife, who helps me to make right choices.

Sorry, I'm so late for this party. I haven't been around much that's why I didn't know that my comment made a big hit in VJ landia...LOL!!!

First, I think it's kinda stupid dissecting the whole post because I don't think there will be anyone, on her own sensible mind who will get married just for the cute babies. You shouldn't have taken it TOO seriously on it's own.

Second, I don't think lowly of my own heritage, as well as our looks. In fact I love it, especially the brown skin which I will never trade in for anything else. Even now that I'm married to a white skinned man, I always tell my husband how much I'm hoping for our kids to get my color. But of course, even if our kids don't end up like how I want them to be, I would love them just as much.

But just because I love our features doesn't mean I shouldn't appreciate the beauty of racial mix. It's already given that I'm married to a man from a different race, thus racial mixing will be inevitable with our own kids, might as well embrace it.

Lastly, for goodness sake! They are MY so called reasons that's why I made the word "MY" bold to imply that I wasn't talking in behalf of every Filipinas. Ever heard of the famous quote: "To each his own"?!?

I could have added also that the reason why I married my white guy is because I love him, but I believe that's pretty obvious and given already considering I chose him to be with me for the rest of my life.

Anyways, sorry, not much time to type today...

Tanungin niyo asawa niyo!

Nakagawa na ba kayo ng mga magagandang bata?

Oo! And our child has light brown skin! Husband said my genes are stronger than his and I am proud of it!:dance:
