Heh - Garnet - I am sorry that this thread has taken the course it has.

Sorry, I didn't realize that others weren't allowed input here.

I'm pretty sure that's not what she meant.

It's just getting off the initial topic / information request, that's all.

I understand that. But if I remember correctly she said their goal was to come for an extended visit to ensure that marriage is what they want. I thought my input was very valid to just enjoy the visit and put off any wedding plans. She isn't even divorced yet, and sometimes we just need to let our heels cool a bit before we jump in. I don't see why the urgency to arrange marriage so quickly when under this much stress just because the POE decided to put a crimp in the plans. Yeah, it sucks, but it doesn't have to be a "now or never" decision.

You're right morroco4ever, that is certainly another option that the OP has.

It is unfortunate that their plans were abruptly changed by the border authorities and it is natural to try and see what can be salvaged from those plans. I think it is telling that your fiance's passport was stamped as it was. Basically, because he would need to show the passport for any type of immigration benefit they are saying that no, this visit cannot be extended; and no, this person cannot adjust status from within the US. While the OP can certainly make an application to request an extension it would take longer to approve it than the time given and it is unlikely that it would be extended, given the notation in the passport.

Since you are not yet divorced your options remain hoping for him to have a return visit to the US (although without strong ties that is problematic), going to Canada and get married there, or file for the K-1 and wait until he is able to enter on a fiance visa to get married.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
