Hey Guys,

Couples of things:

1) Nik+Heather: I am so sorry to hear what happend to you... it is maddening to see how dumb the people involved in the immigration process are... whether are physicians or their staff, the government personel, or any any person that is PAID to do their job, which as we all know in most cases they fail to do a good one! Now, I do worry about what happened to you...here is why... my wife's interview is next week and of course we took her paperwork from the CS in Venezuela to the CS here in USA, and the person at the CS's office seemed to know what to do (the only one in the list, in Atlanta, GA, that knew what a K1 visa was compared to the other ones that said that they must do full medicals). So, I am a bit preocupied of our CS not doing the right thing on the paperwork he gave us in a sealed (which obviously we cannot check) envelope. But if i do recall correctly on the paperwork for the K-1 shows that only parts 1-2-5 should be filled out, so i dont understand this whole part 6... I've had issues with USCIS before of them trying to tell me what the law says, so I have this "Bad" habit of keeping the regulations with me to the interview... and holding them accountable to what is show on the their website....

2) To the ones that have gone to interviews for their AOS, have any of you gotten your permanent resident card, "green card", yet? If so, how many days after your interview did it take to arrive??? the information would be extremely useful since, we have a overseas trip in mid April...so I want to see if you will get her GC by then....

Thanks for your help and good luck on your journey

any quick tips for us?

im getting kinda nervous

I didn't feel particularly nervous (we ARE married! What could go wrong? Ha!), so I only insisted on a very minimal amount of prep which consisted mostly of making sure we had all of the documents we thought they'd ask for, and pulling together some pictures taken between the visa interview and the present - wedding pictures, pictures from some other events around the wedding like the night before party, the morning of brunch, our Halloween costumes, trips around AZ, etc.

That was all good, and I had two piles "required" and "maybe helpful" So that I wouldn't be digging through all of it to find something I knew they'd ask for (like the certified marriage license).

We couldn't find any bills with Nik's name on them - like the cell bill is all electronic...But I think when we emptied our wallets with all the same credit, debit, health insurance, car insurance cards it was helpful. It was probably good that I owned the house and the car before we were engaged, so a quick explanation that I had been told that it would take a lot of fees to get his name on the deed as well gave us a pass on that. If you have a lease, maybe that would be good.

I think Nik must have been a bit more nervous than I was, because he totally came up blank on some of the questions she asked him. Typical guy, he just completely forgot dates (including some hesitation on the year I was born!). So, if I were doing it again, I would review with him the "evolution of the relationship". When did we meet? When did we exchange numbers, etc. Go over the dates and durations of trips and flight itineraries of the trips. It's all stuff I know right off but it turns out he was a little fuzzy on. ;) At least the lady we got was a bit forgiving when he hesitated or had to correct himself. It turns out since we ARE married, it all worked out on that front. Lucky for Nik, I was too focused on being mad about the medical to get too upset about the rest, and I'm over it this morning. Oh, one other thing, since it is sworn in, I did jump in while Nik was starting to think out loud and told him not to guess if he didn't know.

Nearly all of the questions came up off of what was submitted already, so review what was put on the forms - address, phone numbers, parents names, dates and places of birth of beneficiary and petitioner, SSN...I saw her ticking off the boxes on the I485 as she went along. These are easy ones, but a review beforehand might be helpful in case of nerves.

There were some things I thought might be asked for but were never mentioned:

- Recent paychecks

- 2009 jointly filed taxes

- 2009 W-2

Hi,

Our interview is coming up in about a month. Do we have to get another certified copy of the marriage license? We only got one and sent it along with our package when we filed. I made a copy of it. Should I bring the copy along? It seems to me they should already have the certified one I sent. What do ya'll think?

Thanks!

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to thank you all for the support, however I will no longer be on this thread anymore. My marriage has turned for the worse so I have to now apply for VAWA. It sucks that my interview was 3 weeks away, but I should have known that I couldn't depend on a husband who is mentally unstable and constantly threatening suicide.

If anyone has any advice on VAWA, personal experiences or information they could forward to me that would be helpful.

Take care and good luck

I don't think you need to. We only had to show ours because we had submitted a plain photocopy. She checked the embossed stamp certifying the copy and the front side against what was in the file and handed it back to me.

If it wasn't in the package, it should have been RFE'd already. I hope that at least THAT is working well. I am painfully aware of how "should" doesn't always equate to what actually happens in this process.

Congratulations, Nik + Heather!

Strangely, I got a text yesterday at 1am saying that on March 16, they mailed us a notice that they'd approved the adjustment of status. But.... we'd already received that approval in the mail a few days beforehand.
