It's public record. Obama donated roughly 250K in 2007 and 180K in 2008.

And you're still off on the donations to the Church - the largest donations were not to the Church. out of 77K in 2005, the Obama's donate merely 5K to the Church while giving 25K to the IL Reading Council, 20K to a Rochelle Lee Fund, 16K to CARE and 11K to misc charities. In 2006, the largest donation was indeed to the Church. That's a far cry from both your previous statements, though.

Its funny how your post was referring to 2007 and 2008, and then when I refute it, you bring up 2005 as proof for your case.

It was a best seller because many conservative magazines, newspapers and organizations were using the book as a loss-leader. Listening to Mark Levin's radio show, I've heard it advertized by at least 5 companies for $5 or less.

yeah, that's your wet dream.

I know you think you're being witty and humorous here, but there seems to be none. Care to explain?

"prove" that this is "why" it was a best seller.

and keep in mind that being used as a loss leader is actually a compliment.

Loss leader a compliment? I'm not sure you understand the concept. But I do supposed that it depends on your perspective. It does lead to inflated sales numbers though. Here is some proof, although I doubt you'll even read it

SOURCE

it is a compliment. let's say you wrote a book (i don't know you to be a writer), would they use your book as a loss leader? the fact that they are using her book to bring about other sales is a compliment. britney spears, micheal jackson, elvis.... all have been used as loss leaders. i understand the concept - lower the price on a "popular" item to bring people to the store while hoping they'll buy something else too.

to a degree, you are right, a smaller price does lead to more sales, but if people were not interested, it would not matter if it were .50, they still would not buy it.

I take it you've never worked in marketing or advertising. This would explain a lot. If the book were really that popular and people were really that supportive, there would be no need to slash the price by 60-75%. I don't doubt the book would have sold a lot of copies on it's own with the normal $24.95 pricetag, just not nearly at the level that is currently being reported. To be fair, this isn't some sort of conservative scheme, this is a marketing scheme and has been used for the past 30+ years by various products. It's just as deceptive if it's done for her book as it was for michael moore's book.

I know. You've been a CEO, worked in Marketing and Advertising, Ran a zoo, studied climate change in Alaska and Antarctica, fought in 3 wars, attacked by the IRA, ran for president in Uzbekistan, were special advisor to Al Gore, and you ran 368 charities around the country.

Are you sure your name isn't Penelope?

Sorry to disappoint you Joe, I was just a lowly account manager for a grassroots marketing firm. You keep bringing up the IRA, and a laundry list of other topics as to which you are completely ignorant of. Do you really want to keep reminding everyone of VJ of how imbecilic you are? Joe, come on now, don't be your usual self. Read the media matters link. It shows how many loss-leader pricing websites? Most of them are not even conservative minded websites. I know it pains you, but read Joe, the proof is in the pudding.

Its public image manipulation. She wants to run for president, donating proceeds from a book about her life to a fund for crime victims of a national outrage makes her look like she actually does care about the little guy (as well as supporting the troops).

Its quite obvious what its about.

Obama would never do such a thing.

As I said - who cares.

The thread is about Palin, not Obama.

Funny you didn't check the source you offered to support your claim. It became obvious that you didn't seeing that the source you offered did not support the argument you were looking to make. It's even more obvious now that you want to criticise me for utilizing the data offered in the matierial you served up. It covered the tax years 2000-2006.

But let's look at 2007 and 2008: The Trinity United Church received 26K (just over 10% of the total 240K in donations) in 2007 while the UNCF and CARE received 50K and 35K, respectively. TUC received nothing from the Obama's in 2008. So again, Joe, your statement is wrong. Hot air. Just as expected.

How much did Obama donate? How much did Biden?

STFU

Who knows?

It's public record. Obama donated roughly 250K in 2007 and 180K in 2008.

Where did a majority of that money go? The hate mongering Wright.

Its public record that Palin donated more than Biden did in his entire career. For many years Biden donated 395.00 per year.

Joe you would make the debate about taste great/ less filling a conservative vs liberal argument

However :ot2: I applaud Palin for making this donation.

Actually she is quite personally wealthy, worth millions in fact, prior to the book as I understand it.

Can't begrudge her making a donation to such a great cause, but would agree it appears a bit self serving vs just privately donating to the cause.

Since Danno will think me lying about her net worth, here are some links you can follow up to double check:

Article on her wealth during campaign

Palin's AK State 2007 financial disclosure

Didn't see the mega personal fortune in either of those links.

I know facts are inconvenient for you AL, but perhaps you would accept the word of the oh so conservative Wall Street Journal?

Palin is doing quite well for herself

Not that impressed by a mere million on a national scale. Subtract her house, all the those expenses for her large family and couple of cars and snowmobiles and it's not that dazzling. BTW, cost-of-living is considerably higher in Alaska so factor that in.

"With over $1 million in total assets, Gov. Palin has some company among the voting public. TNS Financial Services reported that there were a record 9.3 million millionaires (households with a total net worth of over $1 million dollars) in the U.S. in 2006."

Gooooo Sarah!!!!

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."
