Moving back to Brazil

I have a question about re-entry permits and being granted a GC again. My husband and I (the USC) are seriously thinking about moving back to Brazil in a year and a half when I graduate. There are so many reasons why I think living in Brazil would be better for us, but that's not the question I have here.

As of now my husband is in the process of getting his permanent GC (we're removing conditions). If we leave the country before applying for citizenship, would it be possible to apply abroad? I'm guessing not.

If we decide to live in Brazil forever, then he won't need his GC. However, if we did, in the future, decide to move back, and his GC has expired, can we just reapply? At that point I'd have been living in Brazil for years so we can go the CR-1 route.

On the other hand, is there a way to keep his residency while living abroad?

Thanks. My husband hasn't shown any interest in getting citizenship and I'm afraid we may not have time to apply if we have to move for a job once I graduate.

That is still an option, but it'd be nice to know what we can do with what we have (residency).

and don't forget, if you apply while you're in Brazil again--you should be able to apply DCF which will be much faster all the way around.

DCF, that's what it's called. Thanks. I did a bit of Google research and read up on the re-entry permit which is an option.

It seems if we move back to Brazil and in so many years decide to move back, and my husband's residency has expired, then we can just apply for DCF before arriving. I'm sure it won't be more expensive than naturalization at this point.
