I'm not a designer, but when I used to do music production work, I ran into this sort of thing a few times. I've got one amusing / exasperating example in particular, but I'm not gonna hijack the design thread. :P

Yea I looked at the encoding and there are 'blink' tags.

It isn't blinking on my browser though.

Thank you!!

See Krikit, I'm not on drugs! :P

yes you are, you're my "drug" buddy!

I bet it's different browsers!

It's nice that you two are drug buddies :)

I guess even drug addicts need a buddy

My husband just shared a story from work today...

The client asked him to create a button "EMTM Connect" and he created a really nice button, but then the client asked them to do one that is more 3 dimensional. Apparently there was about 10 emails and 20 ways this button could go and at the end of the day this was created:

http://www.emtm.upenn.edu/

(its the button on the right side of the page... the one and only 3D object on the page)

He made some really good ones, but the client kept saying: "I want it to float.."

Really?? He was thinking it didn't fit with the rest of the site.

It really irked him.

Actually...I agree with Trailmix and the client...which is why this thread died out for a little while there. The button is good and looks like it fits the site!

Mike is reading this and he says: "It's okay for what it is... it could have been a lot worse... I guess...." he's his own worst critic.

His entire firm was like sick over the thought of a 3D button on the site. I wish he would have kept the drafts... because he said they were worse at the start. The client wanted it to pop out more.

The client wanted an outie. :P

Oh I see exactly what he means, I suspect if I was doing that page I would have had the same reaction - but being detached from it, it's a pretty cooool little number.

The button sticks out, was the first thing I saw on the page when i opened it up!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I just saw this thread now and all I have to say is... OMFG! That is, unfortunately, so damn true. Really.

Loved the comic, Sprailenes. :P

I have a friend who'd really like to see this. She had a client one time refuse to pay her for her work because the "economy is bad and he needs to make money."

To complement that comic, here's a video off YouTube:

That's funny, in that video the guy in the restaurant, at the end of it, says to the chef, im going to need you to show us how you did this so we can do it in-house. That's exactly what happened with the truck people - they bought FP before the new person started and they wanted me to teach the then office manager how to use it so they could update the page themselves. I said no, i'm not really a teacher.

Some people

As I resurrect this thread, here's an article about company logos that designers (and those who know them) might find amusing.

Just so you all know, the logos shown in that article are all REAL. I even looked some of them up just to be sure. :P
