OH my god.

This was like the last web design I did.

The first meeting was like, okay, don't use our colours, our logo, our fonts or any of our marketing material. We want a fresh, new look! I know, makes ZERO sense, right.

3rd meeting later, after 4 organic mock-ups, they bring in a new business partner who, you guessed it, wants to use their fonts, logos, colours and all the rest...

It was a BUST UP!!!!

WEll, it was truly awful.

They did, however, pay for my design time which is better than the nothing some people would get. Deposit. Up. Front.

There's more sketches like that. Like one about Twilight that almost made me piss my pants.

Oh #######! Tell me about it. Oh and then? How about the 'kids' with little to no web or design experience who come in and 'design' sites for, oh, say, a cookie or a sammich or something therefore making it harder for the rest of us who actually know our ####### to charge a decent fee.

True story.

Fecking kid did a ####### site for a baker that wanted me to do it for a damn freaking COOKIE!!!!

It was a big, fancy cookie but holy #######. I was going to charge scale.

:(

OMG. Happened here, too! Only it was my PROFESSOR that caused me to quit!!!! Yeah. Webdesign Professor -- the person who was supposed to help me learn more caused me to quit and drop out of school. I wish I could say that I could have just switched to another professor, but he was the only one. Is it ironic that he is no longer teaching there? In fact, to my knowledge? The whole program was scrapped shortly after I left.

.. I should have just stayed freelance and self-taught.

This happens with my husband and I a lot. He does freelance outside of work and we get some whackos. Like the chef who wanted animated knives... or the photographer who wanted an animated camera walking around the bottom of the page.

I should just point them to angelfire... you want a cheap site? Go make your own. :P
