ARGH.

I've been getting the Certified Copy of Registration of Live Birth...which was $50. It's actually a copy of a handwritten document.

Okay, I'm a moron. Fortunately it wasn't RFE'd at NVC. I think I'd better order up the cheaper Birth Certificate.

Yes yes. Long form.

I mean...the one I have is REAL long. It's the original registration with scads of information. But I'm going to make a point of ordering the $27 one, just to be on the safe side.

Long form really has nothing to do with its length, lol Just has to have ur parents information on it!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Yeah...the one I have DOES have all of that info on it. But I just ordered the long form birth certificate, just for peace of mind.

Better to pay $27 now than to potentially face an RFE at the interview for having the wrong version of the required document.

Well at least BC is making some money off you before you flee the country! The copy of the registration of live birth is perfectly acceptable

$127 off me now, to be exact!

I'm about 95% sure that the copy of the registration of live birth is fine. I mean...it made it through the USCIS and NVC steps. BUT...like I said, $27 is very little to pay for peace of mind just in case. I'm meticulous to the point of being ####### about this stuff now. :P

I stayed at Le Square Phillips which was the block next to the consulate, just down from the Timmies. Took me a minute and a half to get to the Timmies and another 2 -3 to get to the consulate. The rooms are huge (like a little apartment) but the price is higher as well. If I hadn't gotten a gift cert I might not have stayed there (was about 150 something for a night) but it was clean and the staff were awesome.

The Hilton Bonaventure is a 5-minute walk but they have an outdoor pool you can use year long; which is fun. Fairmont Queen Elizabeth is also 5-minute away and is nice (plus you can get John and Yoko's room). Staying in the Old Montreal is also close by... see the map: http://www.vieux.montreal.qc.ca/heberg/eng/fen_heba.htm

I'll come back to you if I have more ideas. I would let you stay at my place if I was not, you know, already in boxes... hahahaha

Good luck :)

ETA: I saw these ads, second night is 50% off, but I don't know which hotels are participating... http://www.tourisme-montreal.org/Offers

I'm meticulous to the point of being ####### about this stuff now. :P

It's called paranoia and it is rampant at VJ

This is the good thing about the long wait time for interviews - you get to check and double check everything that you may need for the interview

I stayed at the Hilton Bonaventure. It was very nice, the rooms were spacious and updated, the TV was big, pretty much what you'd expect from a Hilton. I've stayed at a lot of Hilton hotels and I'd say this is one of the top 5 I've experienced, appearance and comfort wise. But, there were a few buts. There are a couple sets of stairs, although small (2 or 3 at a time) and no elevators, so if you have a lot of luggage it gets annoying trying to pull them up the stairs all the time. They also charge $10 a day for WiFi, which is quite a bit given what you're spending to stay at the hotel in the first place. I think we paid around $200 for 1 night. And, its definitely more than a 5 minute walk. I would say its at least 10, maybe 15 depending on how fast you're moving. I have little legs so it takes me longer :P

I think I wrote a review somewhere in this thread... It would be from April.

I walk around there most days, so, I was curious and went back online to see the distance, which is 500m (and a 6-minute walk) on Google; however, I can see how it can be longer depending on where you exit the Hilton. Plus January with snow...

Just wanted to give a few more recommendations since someone talk about bed bugs at the closest hotel...

I went for 18 yrs. watching hockey in Montreal and always stayed at at La TourCentreville. Also stayed there when I had my interview, never ever found a problem with the place and the staff is very friendly and out going.

There's a nice little cafe to the right at the entrance and they serve a very nice breakfast and have a good supply of cold beer also a restaurant to the left at the entrance.

Good luck with your interview, enjoy Montreal it's a very nice city.
