Couple of questions...

What hotel would you recommend that's the CLOSEST to the consulate and the address of said consulate is 1155, rue Saint-Alexandre, Montreal, QC, right?

And, I was looking at the list they sent me of stuff to bring. EVerything listed is mainly received and accepted or received and accepted as meeting post requirements (does this mean something that I should be concerned about?)

They don't list the infamous envelope anywhere? The one in which they return your passport -- is this something that's listed elsewhere?

and they also list photographs (the passport ones I assume) as Y= required document has been received and accepted -- does this mean that I don't have to bring them again?

I am not wanting to gather all originals again for this as they have them and have them listed as such. I do have a copy of everything we sent in, verbatim.

Do you think this will suffice? What did you all do?

I think the La Tour Centreville is the consensus pick, since it IS the closest, being only about a block away.

I remember reading that the envelope is NOT on the list. That's because I believe if you DON'T bring one, they'll still send your stuff...but in slow snail mail manner. I might be wrong about that, but it's my working assumption.

As for the other questions...other folks will have to answer.

La Tour Centreville is the closest,BUT sure not the most modern! I stayed there and was fine for me,but if my wife had come with me, would have preferred something a bit nicer!. Was VERY out dated and there are much better deals to be had! I was just happy to have a fridge to keep my beer cold!! So it only had 2 positives for me: 1) fridge for beer and 2) the proximity to consulate. You can do better.

Hey guys, yeah I was JUST on the website for La tour centreville... not so swank but we're only going to be there two nights. We'll both come in on Sunday and leave Tuesday evening so, doesn't need to be swank. I just want it to be close as husband is going TO FREAK at how cold it's gonna be. Seriously.

The photo question is interesting, what we did, my Husband took 2 photos as, at that time, it said 'bring the correct number of passport photos'

Anyway they didn't take them.

No, you don't need new originals, they do have them.

Ebrech N Persona stayed at Latour when they were in Montreal the other day, she said she was going to post some pics of their room, but they aren't there yet.

I should mention, that another VJ member found bed bugs at the hotel! Others that are close by are only a few more minutes walking and probably a better value. If I were to go back to Mtl, i would NOT stay there again!

By the way, La Tour may not be swank...but I agree that proximity is the biggest factor for me (price being a close second). Unless I'm on vacation, a hotel symbolizes nothing more than a bed, toilet, sink and a shower for me. I couldn't care less about anything else.

We stayed at the Delta and it was very close to the consulate. It took 5 minutes to walk there. It is a very nice hotel and we got the room for $79 on hotwire.

I believe LaTour is the cheapest and the closest bet... so if those are your key points, that'd be the one.

More recent visitors there haven't found issues, but it has been a known problem in the past.

The envelope is a must. It lists so on a piece of paper on the outside of the Consulate (which you'll end up reading time and time again while you wait, haha).

Our hotel was nice, but much more spendy. We made a short vacation out of it and stayed the LeDauphin... I'll add my hotel review to that thread when I get a moment.

Okay, the bed bug t hing has frightened me. I will NOT be staying there.

So, Trailmix, you'd think it would be okay to NOT bring more photos? ANd also, if I may ask, do you think I should bring the originals of the documents that they already have the originals of? I will bring an exact duplicate of everything that we ever sent but I really don't wanna have to bring another round of original documents.

What did all the other CR1s do? I have another police cert already and another marriage cert but I don't want to have to carry so many originals of important stuff around.

I had doubles of all my "originals" Brought a few pics, letters. receipts of air travel to DC. brought it all in one of the legal size plastic 13 file accordion binders!! Worked out very well.
