I read this today in the paper and couldn't believe that Senators and the like would have time to represent this old man who openly defied his HOA. I wonder if they would've taken the time to get him proper medical care if he would've needed that?

Slim, I puffy heart you today

Unless you are one of the other homeowners who's property price has just slumped as they now live in eccentric alley.

Wait for the guy's next move - a life sized replica of his tank will appear on the front lawn with fire spurting out of the barrel every hour like the volcano in las vegas

Pity that a compromise couldnt have been reached but it's all good fun for we observers who dont live there.

..and if he is 90 then it won't be for very long. Might be a good opportunity for a speculator to buy up houses in the street...hum.......

A flag pole to the comparison of the Vegas strip?... that's a leap. I would love to see the statistical evidence that can prove how much a flag pole depreciates the value of surrounding houses? If anything, I'll hazard to guess it's splitting hairs at best. Plus, homeboy is 90, he probably won't be around for too much longer and from what I hear it's not the best time to put your house on the market anyway. Flag poles are not permanent and when he goes, so can the pole.

You make it sound like he put a prison in his yard.

Have you seen the flag pole? It's a pretty big flag pole!

This is the exact same debate as the one with Donald Trump a year or two ago - Trump wanted to put up a massive flag at the top of a 50 foot flagpole. That is what happens when you have more money than taste and no sense of perspective.

I think you are confusing me with the Home Owners Association. It was they who had the objection and not me.

I preferred and suggested a compromise and endorsed another suggestion which was a compromise..

Sometimes people have to put their houses on the market at inopportune times and can't wait for the market to come back. If there are any of those on the street, then the HOA are saying that it doesn't help to have the 20 foot pole.

(The HOA, not me)

If it does blight their values then they may have to pray every night for the fellow to die, but he could last as long as the old British Soldier Harry Patch - 111 years old. American life expectancy isn't as long as other western citizens though, so perhaps not.

Once a 90 year old guy becomes 'expressive' they don't usually stop. Evidence the number of garden gnomes in some retirees gardens. So there may be another episode before he is finished.

And the problem with a big pole is? :innocent:

Good thing he didn't put it up because there is a bigger pole put up by the Sons of Confederate Veterans down in Tampa.

The i's are dotted, t's are crossed and a 139-foot flagpole is ready to fly the Stars and Bars over one of the busiest highway interchanges in Florida.

The Sons of Confederate Veterans in Tampa plan soon to raise what they claim is the world's largest Confederate flag on a private triangle of land tucked near where Interstates 75 and 4 meet. The flag measures 50 feet by 30 feet.

We saw it on our way down to Tampa this past Memorial Day. It is HUGE.

Sounds like a big 'Black men keep out sign'

There is a huge sign warning us non religious people as you enter Montana on I90

I think it's near Missoula

It says 'Jesus is Lord in this Valley' and the meaning is clear.

I felt quite intimidated and it worked coz I am not going East of the Columbia again.

For me, it's all about the double standard. "It's OK to do this... as long as we agree with it."

I bet there weren't any Senators trying to help them fly that flag. I didn't hear anything about a White House press release either.

Oh, wait a minute.... it was legal!

Oh FFS - if you live in a community that enforces these sorts of rules you can't be surprised when they are enforced.

Its a total non-issue.

Sure all this bickering is not helping that guy nor settling this situation. If you move into an area with a HOA, have to get permission first before doing anything, that's in your agreement when you buy the property. It's that simple, if you don't like what you read, go someplace else.

If you go into a bank that advertises zero per interest and sign your life away where that interest only applies to the first month in small print, then they want full payment with 20% closing cost after that month, and you don't read that before signing that contract, that is also your fault.
