Montreal Interview Documents to Bring

Some of us have succeeded in getting our January Interview in Montreal for our CR1.

Does anyone know if you REALLY need to bring all the ORIGINAL documents to the interview, even if you have already sent everything to the NVC during the paper work process?

Example:

Police Certificate (do I have to go and get finger printed AGAIN?)

Birth Certificate (in long form with BOTH parents names)

Original Marriage Certificate (we sent this in already, we have to get ANOTHER ONE!)

Any been interviewed already for a CR1 in Montreal US Embassy? Care to share experience?

If a part of your file gets lost in transit, or on the CO's desk you would want to be able to supply the needed document there at the interview rather than getting an RFE and delaying the issue of the visa.

Yes, files / documents do get dropped, lost, misplaced.

If you want to be sure nothing slips through the cracks, go to your interview prepared.

Good post Biglos I've been wondering about that very thing myself. If you send the originals to NVC, how do you also have the originals for the consulate??

You should bring copies of your documents, originals are not necessary if you have already submitted them to NVC.

If you have another marriage certificate, then bring it. If you are close to the 1 year validity the Montreal Consulate gives the police certificates then bring another one (mine expired in June, we interviewed in May and they asked for another certificate).

She has to have interviewed in Montreal, it is the only consulate in Canada that processes IR1/CR1 visas

Yes we interviewed in Montreal. I had another certificate done just in case, which I am really happy for because they asked for it. We didn't want any delays so we went prepared

I'm really confused by my interview letter - on the document list of docs to bring, it includes a line for "IMMIGRANT VISA APPLICATION". Can anyone tell me which document that specifically refers to?

There should be a letter beside corresponding to whether you have submitted that form to the NVC. You should made have copies of everything you have sent to the NVC to bring to the interview, so bring copies of the forms and originals of whatever you can. At least that is my understanding of everything so far. That what I am doing.

You're application for immigrant visa should be the DS230 that you sent to NVC. There also should be a letter beside that indicates the status of that document (either an A, F, O, P, T, U,X Y, I, S) - there is a legend on the last page to decode that. Check to see if that document is needed by the consulate.

it has a Y next to it, but I'm not sure if that is the DS230, because there's a line for "immigrant visa application", and then the next line is DS230-II, and that has an F next to it.

Y means the document has been submitted and accepted. F means that it is not necessary for the application.

Go with what the guide says, if you don't need it don't worry about it. If you have already submitted it and it's been accepted, bring a copy.
