I wanted to introduce myself and my husband to all of you since I'm sure we will be on the boards a lot now that we are getting ready to file paperwork.

My name is Laura and my husband Kyle is from Scotland. We met online via Second Life in late June/early July 2008. I went over for a week last Thanksgiving and also stayed with him and his family for almost 2 months this summer (I'm an online teacher). It was his turn to come over to the states so he came over for a visit in early October, and we ended up getting married on my 32nd birthday on November 14th! We are now going through some of the paperwork to file before his VWP 90 days are up (Jan. 3rd, 2010) for an AOS.

Okay, so I've gone over the forms, the guides, and have tried to read the forums for the answers to my questions without any luck.. so I apologize if I ask this in the incorrect forum...

1. On the I-130, #10.. would he have an Alien Registration Number if he came over on the VWP? He has an 'admission number' on the green I-94W in his passport and didn't know if this is what they mean...

2. Again on the I-130, #14, what are we supposed to put on the Arrival/Departure Record (I-94)? It has spaces like this: _ _ _ - _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Would he have one of these numbers? Again, is this the 'admission number'?

Thanks again for everyone's help and I look forward to getting to know you all better on the forums! :)

Laura

Yay! Another Scottish person! Where is Kyle from?! Your husband should consider himself very fortunate that you are helping him with all this immigration paperwork, as I had to do it all myself (that's okay, though...I'm one of those weird people who like doing stuff like this).

As regards Kyle's Alien #, I don't think he would have one at this stage. I thought I had one (on the work permit I got after I graduated) so I put that down on the form but when I got my receipt notices, I noticed I had an altogether different Alien #. I would leave it blank unless somone comes on here and tells you otherwise.

I can't help you with the other question. Sorry.

Oh, actually, as regards the I-94, I don't know if your husband would have received one if he came to the US with VWP. However, if he did, then the I-94 # is very easy to find. It's in the top left corner under "Departure Number".

Hi Laura! Congrats on your recent wedding and welcome to these forums :star:

In answer to your first question as a tourist on visa waiver he won't have an alien number. I was here on a work visa and didn't have one either so I wrote none in that box. Alien numbers are usually issued for permanent residents, fiancee visas and maybe a few other circumstances i'm not aware of... Generally people who are likely to become permanent residents (i think...) But they're definitely not issued to tourists...

For your second question, I checked my forms and on question 14 I put the I-94 number (the admission number) in the space with those dashes.

Good Luck

Your husband should consider himself very fortunate that you are helping him with all this immigration paperwork, as I had to do it all myself (that's okay, though...I'm one of those weird people who like doing stuff like this).

I know right?!? I think that's so awesome you're helping him... My hubby is not a paperwork person at all... though in his defence he did do a great job at pushing family members and friends to write affidavits for us and chasing them up... Also he works long hours and i'm not working - so the paperwork was my job... And i am a paperwork person! lol!

Lucky you! It was like getting blood out of a stone trying to get my husband to do anything. I'd tell him what I needed; then he'd forget; I'd tell him again; and he'd forget again!

And men wonder why women nag! This is why, men! It's the only way we ever get you to do anything!

I did warn my husband that if we move to Scotland he'd have to figure out the immigration process all by himself! I'd probably end up helping him, though, as I do like paperwork myself! Does this make you and I weird, Marie!?

Hello! Thanks for the help! Yea, I LOVE paperwork/gov't kind of stuff... I was a government teacher for a bit.. so maybe that's it. I love how the law works (and how whenever they say there is a paperwork deduction, it usually is a smaller amount of paperwork, however it takes longer to fill it out!

Kyle is from Inverness area.. 15 miles out near Beauly in Scotland. It was beautiful. During the summer I missed the mid 70s/80s/90 degree temps.. but he gets to look forward to the heat and humidity this summer. I'll have to figure out how to do the timeline and such to my profile soon. Sometimes you may even see Kyle pop up and write something on the forums. :) He at least sits beside me while i work on the paperwork trying to hunt down whatever form or whatever I might need to complete the paperwork.

:) Thanks again for the warm welcomes and info! :)

Lol! awwww I kept having to give my husband to do lists... Yep can't imagine my hubby trying to file for British citizenship by himself either. He did ask me if I could get dual citizenship for him... Not because he wants to live in the UK but because he thinks it would be cool to have! lol! So not happening! I guess someone has to do the paperwork for them... :star:

If I gave my husband a to-do list, he would just lose it! Either I've just only ever dated flakey men, or all men are like this. If that's the case, how come they managed to rule the world for so long? Hmmmm, probably by gettiing the women to take care of the pesky paperwork while they swanned around having a grand old time! :-)
