All said that the engagement is necessary, if so you need to have it.

For me, I didn't have any engagement ceremony. When I came to the interview, I didn’t pay attention on what paper they had on their table. I only cared about the voice of that young black man, who interviewed me. His voice was very low behind the glass made me difficult to understand him by English. I concentrated to hear and answer his questions. He was not happy when he asked me about my pictures of engagement ceremony and I said I didn’t have it. I gave the reason that we were both old and this was the second marriage, so we didn’t need to make any ceremony according to Vietnamese tradition, besides, my mother didn’t agree for my marriage.

I passed that interview, but it was 2 yrs ago, I don’t know what would happen now. It’s for your information.

we did not do an elaborate engagement...the one with full traditional gown and banners everywhere. It was just an informal dinner with the family to celebrate the asking for my fiance hand in marriage...about 8 people....no one dress-up or anything.

we submitted these pictures during I129F petition.

No Dam Hoi = No visa. Period.

By far NOT TRUE. MANY people have gotten a K1 visa approved without a engagement ceremony. It is harder because HCMC is a high fraud country, and if they are going to deny you they will use this for one of their reasons EVEN IF YOU DO HAVE ONE, they will say it was not big enough for their standards, they said that with ours and we had over 100 guests there, and we were able to prove this with photos. It is your choice if you want to wait and file, and as Linda said you have waited this long, my thinking is that is a bunch of #######, you have waited this long, and you want to be together, this is my opnion as it was hers for you to wait longer. It takes many months before your interview will even happen, you can get a timeline made when you are in Vietnam showing the engagement ceremony prior to the interview. The only issue would be why so long for the engagement party, and if your family is going there that would be an acceptable reason to wait to have it. Again this is only my opnion, you have waited long enough and regardless of what happens at the interview the engagement party is not REQUIRED as most people will try to tell you. Good luck on what ever your decision will be. Jerome
